Maybe you should read WallyWife's statement closer. It said how most companies work, not how MOST TRUCKING COMPANIES WORK! A PTO system of accumulating time off that can be used right away versus waiting an entire year until ones anniversary date is much better! That is why so many corporations use this system of accrued PTO as part of employee retention.
HOLY PTO!!!

No need to sound like that back corner of the driver's room! Pretty easy to understand. Willing to bet they'll even let you take a few hours here and there if you go home early.

Have you read the section on page 13, highlighted in blue, on the right?
Under sick time. We keep what we have earned. Fine and fair. The last sentence is what bothers me.
" Unlike the current policy , under the new program, you can only use this time while on approved leave to care for a family member."
So, if I'm single and have no family member to care for,I better burn those 24 sick days I currently have, before this program goes into effect?
Or if I'm just sick, I can't use those?
Or please tell me if I'm reading this wrong. -
No, you can still use those sick days as you do now to cover time lost for the first week before the short term disability begins to pay you at 75% of your ADP. What has changed is you can add on $100 sick days to the 75% of ADP that will be paid for the 2 weeks a year of parental and family care leave if needed. See pages 6-7 of the brochure you received. You will not lose your sick time already earned.

Seems to be a conflict. One place it says you can use it, the other it says only for leave to care for a family member.
-
I can see where the wording can be confusing. Under current policy, we are not paid 75% of our ADP for time off to care for other family members. We must use our own paid time off available or just take the time off unpaid. Under the new program, we will be eligible to be paid 75% of our ADP for up to 2 weeks a year to care for another family member PLUS be able to tack on $100 a day from our available sick pay, which is something we cannot do presently.
WallyWife Thanks this. -
I'm gonna keep pushing on this topic. Because I believe words matter.
Let's look at page 6. In the right hand column ( under the green 75%), it states you can use short term disability for" your own" injury or illness. Later in the same paragraph, it says " when you are on an approved medical leave of absence ".
What is current policy on LOA? Is it medical only? Are there any reasons why you might need to be off work other than medical? Hypothetical, my wife is dying of cancer, Dr says two months at the most. New policy gives me two weeks pay to care for her. Under the present policy can I receive LOA to care for her? The new policy, as I read the words, no, only leave for your own MEDICAL issue. -
Do you agree that once those $100 days are used, we loose that flexibility of using one or two to make up a short day?It appears only full days will be paid. If true, that is a negative to me.
