I am looking to see if anyone in the GTA or Durham area know of any temporary jobs.. I would prefer Durham if at all possible.. When I say temporary I mean that I don't know how long I can be with the company, could be 1 week or it could be a month maybe longer I really don't know.... So what I am looking for is a company who can use an extra driver and not worry about how long they can provide services.. Maybe a shunting job or an on-call type of job. I realize this might be very hard to find but I figured I would put it out there is any hope that I can get lucky.. Since I currently drive training really would be needed so it would help the hiring I think since no training of driving the truck is required.. I might try to see if my old company would bring me on as well but I would like some other options as well if there is any.

My situation is this... Since I work for the City of Toronto anyone who is reading this thread (and watches the news and/or reads the paper) will know that we are going through negotiations and there is a possibility of a lock-out/strike. The City or Union will both be legally in a position to stop work on Feb 20. I can not afford to be off for an extended amount of time (last strike if you remember was 39 days). Hence why I am trying to fill the void to continue working. Part-time stuff is even ok since picketing pays a weekly amount for doing the picket duty. I hope the City and Union both come to an agreement as I would really hate to have to do this but I want to also be prepared for the worst...

So if anyone has any suggestions that I may look into that would be greatly appreciated.. I just can't afford to live on the picket duty pay amount alone so I would like to top this up by working. Hopefully it won't come to this in a few weeks but it's better to be safe and prepared then sorry and unprepared...

    Thanks

I see Canadian trucks in Erie , Pennsylvania going past the TA truck stop on 90. almost Everyday . Maybe there are short hauls in and out of Canada. Celadon would send me to a Kitchener , Ontario terminal that had a Gert trucking sign. And they would have me call a customs broker for an entry number for an Ace electronic manifest
