HOLY PTO!!!

Meetings in late spring, early summer to explain all this. Then a rush of drivers putting in for time off to use those days.

Current policy is if you are out more than 3 work days (other than scheduled time off for vacation, etc), you must request a LOA. Depending on the type of LOA determines whether it is paid or unpaid, such as personal medical (paid at 75% of ADP after a 6 working day elimination period) or unpaid (personal LOA or care for a family member). Under your hypothetical, you can take up to 12 weeks LOA under FMLA and up to one year at the discretion of the company. Presently, you would need to exhaust all paid time off first before the 12 weeks FMLA begins. Under the new plan, the first 2 weeks can be paid at 75% of ADP plus any $100 sick days you wish to add on. No matter what changes the company makes to compensation for any time off on LOA will take away from the existing Federal Law covering you for 12 weeks of FMLA.

 

How one uses those $100 sick days varies from person to person, so no matter how it turns out, it will not please everyone. I am looking at the bigger picture in terms of available paid time off, both what is earned PTO and what can be used under the short term disability or family care plan. My financial situation is not disrupted based on whether or not I can use a $100 sick day to cover a short day at work or just being sick in general. Everyone has different needs, so what works for me may not for others.

 

Tom, you didn't answer my question. Do you agree we loose the flexibility we now have when those days are gone?

 

I cannot say yes or no right now until more details of the new program are fully explained at future meetings we will be able to attend. I have questions myself, especially as it pertains to how hours worked will be calculated in order to accrue PTO.

 

I was told in a meeting last Friday. They will get the hours from the OBC on duty and drive time.

 

Tom to answer an earlier question you had, time will be based on onduty hours and drive hours. Example is 0-1 must work 136 hours to attain one day of active PTO. 2 years is 112, 3-5 100 and so on.

 

0 to 1 year is 125 hrs in my book for 1 day with a 21 day max

 

Thanks Matt. I figured this may be how the hours are calculated, but have not confirmed this previously due to being on LOA.

Have you heard whether or not the 4 quarterly safety days that can be earned will be included in the maximum number of PTO days that can be earned in a year? I saw where you said previously that the safety days would be separate from the PTO earned, but not whether or not they are included in the maximum number of PTO days that can be earned per year.
