If you look at the top of the post, you'll see that this thread is over three years old, and the member you're addressing hasn't been here in two years, seven months, and four days. He'll probably never see it.

what is all this really going to do for you? are there dollar figures? you seem to be a bit more in touch than the average driver (so,why are you in truckin) the wife threw that zinger in, you can get a million plus miles out of your standard diesel engine, will this get you up to a million and one? i am seriously interested in answers, i'm not diggin atcha..Shakey

You might still find steved on cumminsforum.com or dodgeforum.com in the ram turbodiesel section. He's not a trucker he was installing this bypass on a 3/4 ton pickup.

The original post is over 4 years old...and the OP hasn't been on this board for over two years...FWIW.

Ding ding ding we have a winner. Is this just re-inventing the wheel? This like many other options out there seem to be long on feel good and short on credible data about how well they work.
Many years ago I came to the realization that I don't have a room full of accountants working for me on how much X, Y or Z will save me if I do this. But I know how does. SNI Marten, and all the other big companies do.
So I watched what and how they did things and realized that maybe I was trying to re-invent the wheel with some of my thoughts and actions. In short as drivers many things sound good. As business people we must have the attitude of "Show me the Money" as a first concern. Many things are done in the name or hope of preventing a negative outcome from happening. Thats great, except what if things go as per normal. Then did it really save you anything?
So I tell people to ask a few questions. What can this item guarantee me? How much will it add to the operating cost? How much care and maintenance does it require? If I have to justify why I'm doing something then maybe I'm really doing it because it makes me feel better. That does not make me a bad businessman, but it helps to maintain the perspective of where and what I'm doing. -
Well to answer as many of the above responses as I can...I'm a hands-on kinda guy...I get a thrill out of seeking out info and using it to my advantage....I may NEVER try and duplicate Ralph's modifications on one of these air filters....but in the event I get a wild hair,...I'll have the info I need to proceed. I've ALWAYS had an issue with the overuse of oil and all of the potential damage it can cause in the hands of unreputable folks. There is an economic bottom line as well as an environmental bottom. I'm not going to re-address the reason why I'm responding to "OLD THREADS OR POST" I have done that elsewhere...even started a new thread on the issue. Shakey...I like your style friend!... I think I've answered your question for the most-part. Tell your wife that I have no good explanation as to why I do what I do...I tell people when they respond..."oh, your a truck driver".....No,...I'm a business man, but I've been driving trucks long enough to know better!....I don't know, was 2 & a half years into college pursuing electrical engineering as I watched the majority of that field collapse...Guys with years of experience that couldn't even get jobs flippin burgers...So I scrapped that and took up driving. Paid the bills round my place through 4 children now grown and on their own. I had a job through times when the 9 to 5 factory or office couldn't get work period. Anyway, There are times I truly enjoy running a truck...early quiet hours of the morning...listening to that engine purr...Hope that answers y'alls questions!
