c16 vs c15

Thanks mr. Haney, great info, you always seem to clearify so many things. I do have an additional question that no one has been able to tell me, maybe you know. Can c-16 liners be installed in a 6nz block? Everyone knows that you have a 5.4" bore compared to a 5.5" bore, but no one seems to know what the outside liner dimensions are, and if they can be installed in the 6nz block. Also can a c-16 crank (6.75" stroke) be installed in a 6nz block also? You see where im going with this? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

 

So a converted (single turbo) BXS motor is the golden ticket?

 

The c15, c16, C18 block, and head are all the same

 

I guess i was referring to internal parts ect. And i thought i seen somewhere in this thread the bxs was easiest to convert over. Im asking because i have a 12.7 detroit in my truck and need more pulling power thinking about swapping a cat in and want to build a solid reliable motor that will pull like a freight train.

 

Yes you can install c16 pistons and liners in a 6nz but you also have to change cranks. But why? If you already have a Detroit there is a few things to make it run very well for less $$$.

 

Ya im looking into cam and injectors as we speak.

 

Unless you are looking to make big numbers like 800+ why convert? They run very good with a few proper adjustments.
Single = a lot more noise, more cost up front, less mid-range power and throttle response but slightly better mpg's (2-3tenths) and better top end power. I've never run a single conversion I'm just going off of what I've been told. Now a proper twin that's another story I'll keep my twins!

I am a single turbo kinda guy. The twins do give you a wider range. But in my opinion are restrictive, unless you build your own version of twins. Simply put, I don't like the a-cert's turbo's. That's just my opinion. I like it simple.

 

Just a little confused when you said i already have a detroit? Not me, Im trying to put together a c-16 without buying a complete engine for about $20,000. So i guess my real question is hypothetically, can i install c-16 pistons and liners in a 6nz block i have, along with a c-16, 6.75" stroke crank? I should be able to re-bush and use the 6nz connecting rods with this combo. This will give me a 15.8 l lower end, essentially a c-16? I just didnt know if there would be any clearance issues. I was told that the added throw in the crank might pose a clearance issue in the block. Thanks for any info you might have.
