Moving the two large machines even several feet makes a big difference.
Remember, when you put 1000 pounds on the truck, it came off the trailer.
You are only 6000 pounds difference now. Transferring only 3000 pounds
will make truck and trailer equal.

An easy way to figure is take your load weight, divide by trailer length,
gives you how much weight will change. Approximate load weight is
30,000 pound, divided by 48' trailer, =666 pound per foot. Move the load
    3'. 3 x 666 = 1998 pounds. 26778 on truck, 28762 on trailer.

Confused. Think about it like this. If you could put the entire load
on the rear foot of the trailer, how much weight would be on the front?

Wow, theres a lot of good information in this thread.

I've been scaling heavier on my trailer axles lately, and lighter on the truck drives. I will definately be referencing this next week. I'm going to assume it's harder to load the way you want if you're getting multiple mixed items, vs just one commodity.

So, if I figure out the target payload center of gravity, using Heavys method, then use rcelmos math, I should be able to place the load (or loads) where I want, and then place it a little farther forward to load more on the truck?

You can move the equipment forward or back but also depends on which way they face. Just buy backing the center piece on could change the ratio depending on how the drive train is configured. So that is always something to think about. Example is a grader

    DDlighttruck Thanks this.
