Anyone Work For Millis?

I drive local so I hump-lump my own loads
But I was under the understanding that lumper's charge much more than $80
I was curious maybe Millis had some good deals going

Oh, not completely sure yet...I have the offer, but trying to decide between Millis and Central Reefer........thats why I am asking the questions to verify recruiters words before I jump forward....

 

Oh, we know he wouldn't get a Cascadia. He saw the video before I even told him Millis had gotten a few. I told him when I win the lottery, I'll buy him one to play with lol Today was his last day on his current job, he's so happy. And still looking forward to Monday. He'll drive down early Sunday evening and get settled in.

I'm going to go back through and read this thread again, he had a few questions that I know the answers are already here.

I'm a little concerned with what people are saying about going through the training and then not getting hired/getting let go, but hoping for the best. He's wanted to work for them for soooo long, I want it all to work out.

as far as lumpers go i have never paid for one out of my pocket just call and tell them the price and they give me a # for a comcheck but if it says driver unload or assist you will be paid for it the truck you take home or make other arraingment to park it somewhere you think it will be safe mileage bonus is correct only thing is if you go over 3000 miles they will pay you .05 cent a mile extra also she was correct about the running lanes also alot wisconsin to east coast or south east i get to texas about 3 or 4 times a year if you go on the south east regional you probaly get out there more than if you are over the road as far as the class being cancelled i dont know anything about that and going thru training and than being let go after 5 or 6 weeks with a trainer i have only read about that happening to one person and i dont have all the facts so i will stay out of that discussion they are good about getting you home also and are petty genius with hometime compared to most companies as long as you have it turned in when it is suppose to they will get you home if you do get home late they will let you take the extra time off that you were late as long as you dont have a load to deliver at a certain time

 

Been at millis 5 years and had to hand unload ONCE. It was packages of insulation and they paid me $120.00. They wanted to hire a lumper but it was at a small building supply that did not offer lumper ser. I'm paid to drive not to do hot, sweating work. For those drivers that make there money unloading trucks more power to them I'm at the age that too much physical labor is unjust. With my dispatcher we make money driving not doing manual labor. Also when checking out other companies something to ask about is power inverters they run microwaves, slow cookers etc. THis helps you save a ton of money not eating unhealthy, expensive truckstop foods. At Millis you can have a 1500 watt inverter installed just another way to save money. There are several more advantages that Millis offers that alot of other large companies do not offer.

No I'm afraid not. I have 10 acres that I'm clearing 1 tree at a time for a new house. I wish I could work like I was 18 again. Sitting on my hind parts has taken its toll. I'm no lard butt but no 18 year old either. I try to park and walk as much as I can but still I dom spend alot of time sitting.

 

I tried that 1 tree at a time when I bought my place. I was 39, new Stihl chainsaw. Lasted 2 weekends. Went to place I has account with and rented track loader. Ahhh the only way to log. I pushed all the stuff in to pile and worried about cutting it up that winter when I could wear Carhartts and not sweat like a pig. Hours are not the problem as you get older. But the body does start talking to you.
