You may not want to limit yourself to a Cobra 29 because a Uniden PC78 series is an equivalent CB radio from another manufacturer. The Uniden PC 68 series compare favorably to the Cobra model 25. Both Cobra and Uniden have been highly rated.
.
By the way, Cobra CB's are carried by Walmart and Uniden CB's are carried by Target if you want to compare features and prices.Last edited: Jul 17, 2008

The Cobra and Uniden radios are good choices, if you want a little more radio, look at a General Lee. More important than radio choice is a good antenna, correctly installed and the swr matched. I've heard guys with big radios sound like crap because they didn't take the time to have the swr matched or used a cheap antenna.

Cobra's are good radios, but if you want a little more for just a little more, look at a Galaxy 44. Good radio, nice set of features for a beginner. I use my radio quite a bit (Connex 4300-300). There is nothing wrong with a little echo in your radio as long as it's set right. You put a ton in and nobody can understand you then yeah, it's annoying. Roger beeps, useless. I make fun of every single one I hear. My 2cents. Cobra's are ok, Galaxies are better. If you plan on using it alot you'll get into it and want more than what a 29 can give you. By the way, don't EVER, EVER let anyone talk you into a POWER MIC. They put more noise into your transmission than anything. Get a RK56 (RoadKing) or a good astatic and you'll sound GREAT. Good luck to you in your career change!

Just wanted to thank everyone for their input. Been on the road for the past 3 weeks and not able to respond. Still favoring the galaxys but still not decided either...

Just FYI I have a Cobra 29 LTD BT and a Uniden PC78 Elite. I prefer the Uniden for the weatherband and it's a little better at getting rid of the noise. It seems with the Cobra I'm always messing with the squelch. Everyone says they both sound good. The Cobra 29 can listen better, I guess that's the trade-off of always messing with the squelch. Also, the 29 LTD BT has the blue LED display, which I find too bright even on the dim setting. Another user said he had a Galaxy and used window tint to dim the blue LEDs.
Single Firestik 4' on a mirror mount--noone seems to complain.
