This is great advice. The lives of so many would be so much better if they were able to be content with what they have instead of being discontent with what others have. There is a reason that one of the Ten Commandments deals with coveting your neighbor and jealousy is one of the seven deadly sins. Even the ancients knew that this attitude will poison the soul.
When is enough.....enough? Small company problem.

Six,
You didn't piss me off. I was agreeing with you for the most part. I fail to see how you deduced that my job pays well. In fact I took a nearly 33% pay cut with the promise of a more relaxed working environment.
The reason for this thread was to ask when enough is enough. I know what I had before the mis-hap. I know what I've lost because of the mis-hap. I have dealt with the consequences for almost 6 months now. He's not going anywhere or they would have done it already (like with the others)
And I get "always look at the rainbow" but sooner or later you realize you're just a dumb schmuck standing in the rainSingingWolf and Lepton1 Thank this. -
How would they service the "Big" customer if you take a day off and the other driver is banned?

Someone has to come down from the Dallas team or the east Texas team.
Also we do have an OTR team but they get paid by the mile and this run would not pay them very well. -
The biggest gripe that most drivers have is the pay. Money wasn't even in your discussion. Even with the pay cut, your job pays well.
That Ruthless...he's my hero. A man of few words.
Years ago, I ran a military vehicle out of Oshkosh,WI to Fort Hood. Got empty with a bunch of trucks from my company. They had Qualcomms, and I didn't at the time. My travel agent sends me a load offer via text. I pass on it. She then tells me that the load comes with an $800 reposition fee. I pass on it. The driver next to me is sitting with his engine off and windows down. His Qualcomm fires off. They offered him that load I passed on. He passes on it. Then his travel agent tells him that the load has a $200 reposition fee. He takes it. Should I have said something? No. Anything I said would be poisonous. If that driver was happy with the rate, I will be happy for him.
You go to a cat house and walk in. Homely Girl meets you at the door and promises you a very happy ending. You ask her the rate and she tells you $500/hr. You tell her that you will get back to her. She then tries a quick negotiation, "How about $150?" You see SweetGirl in the middle of the room and HotGirl in the back of the room. Do you take Homely up on her offer or do you inquire what the others are getting?
"I would inquire, Six."
Would you ask Homely or would you walk up to Sweet and Hottie? What would the odds be that Homely would have negative things to say about Sweet and Hottie?

Touche' on the salary. Yes, I get paid enough for what I was told my responsibilities would be. However those responsibilities have increased. At some point there's a diminished return on increasing pay. It may be a great motivator for some to a point. But when that point is reached the greater workload is no longer off set by the increase in pay. Since I have seen no increase in pay you may well guess why I am beginning to question my tenure with this company.
Besides, I'm not after money I am after lifestyle. I haven't lived paycheck to paycheck in many years. I have my retirement ready but if I dip into it now I could only live to my early 70's. I need insurance until I reach Medicare age and I can do with little more.
Also to expand upon Ruthless' comments: I would gladly work 55 hours in five days if you say I have the next two days off. Scheduled days off so I can have a life.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
When I was a kid, I got a job working in a grocery store for minimum wage. Had the time card deal. I was working 3rd shift in high school. I was scheduled to 7, but the first shift guy was always late. Every single day. Im always early. Hes always late. And then they expect me to stay until my relief showd up. You're right, it does feel like youre being punished for diligence.
You have the same problem I do. You are a responsible person. I have a suggestion. Reward yourself. Take a 2 week vacation. I would get on that steel horse and do the2 wheel, 2 lane tourist thing. Be COMPLETELY unavailable. By the time you get back, the manager would have had to get off his arse and do his job. And the dispatcher will have to be nice.
Anyways, I will drink the next adult beverage in your honor. To all you drivers who nevet drop the ball, I salute you.NavigatorWife and stungjoe Thank this. -
From your point of view this is not right. Why should you work that extra day without extra compensation while he gets to work less for same money or more?
From another point of view: how long can this go on for? What if you quit? How will they please their mr big customer?
You're able to do all the customers, no issuess, have some skin in the game.
What my biggest worry would be is him getting canned and a new guy coming in decreasing both salaries as well as work.
As unfair as it may seem but you're more secured at keeping your job than him. Should you get some kind of a bonus or a pay increase ? Absolutely. But in the mean time just keep your head the other direction as long as you're satisfied with your current pay.NavigatorWife and stungjoe Thank this.
