Guys get real. There is no way Bernie or Trump will win. The establishment doesn't want that. The establishment intends to crown Queen Hillary our next president. You have already seen shenanigans in IA with regards to electoral votes getting divided up between Bernie and Hilliary? There will be more of that and guess what, the establishment pick will always get the most electoral votes. That's why the system is set up in such a murky, cloudy way so "outsiders" never really have a chance.

seen an interview where he said we need to get trucks off the roads and get it on trains, so I'm guessing he's not to worried about the industry.

All segments of trucking are feeling the hit right now. No matter what you're doing you will see the over-financed guys fighting for scraps and undercutting each other in order to try and cover their payments. The rest of us just have to ride it out until enough of them go under. I've worked two weeks since the first of the year. I figure if I'm home it will make it easier for them to trip over each other to haul the cheap stuff. I think there are many that are one big repair away from going under right now anyways. No use putting miles on my truck.

There's a guy we haul for quite a bit that has his own trucks too. He's not even sending his trucks down to TX right now because he can get the calves he bought hauled up cheaper than he can do it himself. There are fools bringing them up for $2.65 a mile.

Same with a friend of mine back home. He grows premium alfalfa and has customers for his hay back in the Carolinas. He used to deliver a good amount of it himself since he doesn't have much to do in the winter and likes driving his truck. Not this year. He's saving money by throwing it up on a load board and guys can't call him fast enough.

It's not going to make any difference who gets in, I wouldn't hold your breath thinking things are just going to change. They did a good job shipping our decent paying blue collar jobs over seas the last 40 years or better and still continue. No puppet in the white house is going to fix it regardless of the party.

Actually the train freight has plummeted because it's cheaper to OTR freight to a port than to send it on a train.

Local trucking is great when there's work, but who here wouldn't want to be local instead of OTR?

The oil bust along with the major decline in coal trains was a big part of the decreased rail traffic in 2015. Now the layoffs are setting in

Industry has been flooded with poor brokers, plastic trucks, and everyone wanting to be their own boss for too many years now. There is no weeding out the weak, anyone who gets weeded out will have their equipment sold to a brother or cousin or some family member from who knows where b/c the bank thinks they'll be able to recover some of their loss that way.
On the bright side this time of year is always slow so maybe by April things will come up a bit.
