A lot of companies would have you sitting at a motel with no pay or sleeping in a corner somewhere. They are a very good co and take care of their drivers. That is what I have been telling people. If they were just the avg I would say so. It is things like that; that makes them good. They are the best I have ever driven for. If the time comes for me to depart I still will speak highly of them.
Big Duker Thanks this. -
Just got done with my first week with my trainer. I'm havin a ball out here. This weekend I'm sittin in a hotel in Ok waiting to get back on the road again and finish my time with my trainer. Sounds like I'll be done in a few more weeks.
For anyone considering Maverick, theres a lot of stuff out there that makes the orientation time sound pretty scary but the fact is that if you pay attention and listen to the instructors they will teach you exactly what they want from you. You will never take one of there tests without knowing or at least having been given all the information that you need to pass with flying colors. It is quite obviouse that they are there to help you succeed not fail you.
Thanks for your words notarps. The handle the group I went through training with gave me is preacher, so if you we run into each other give me a holler, we get a bite to eat or something. -
Hey preachit. Your welcome! Yeah, they are a good co. They want to hire good clean cut drivers who pay attention to detail. If you make it thru the 1st couple days and pay attention to what they tell you a person can make it. They weed out the ones who know it all or refuse to do things to their standards. They even tell you during your road test if you do this or that we will fail you and lo and behold someone always does this or that.
There is a lot to securing safely and I reckon it is a check point for them if you don't pay attention to what they tell you in orientation then you probably won't pay attention when it comes to load securement either. -
im thinking of going to maverick , but when i spoke to them they told me i have to do glass cause thats the only thing in my area.
does any one know any thing about the glass.
i need some info, is it a good com
i hear hotarp saying all good things but no com is perfect
no matter what he says -
I am just starting to look at different company's.
I have been interested in flatbed for a while, since my years as a local driver I was mostly dealing in construction, in one way or the other. Also I could use the exercise.
I looked at there hiring map though and it does not look promising. I sent an e-mail to ask though. I have over 1 year OTR now, and need a change.
I just read about 50 pages of this thread and now my eyes are tired lol.
I live in Jamestown NY, which is not far off of the I-90, 40 min from Erie PA, which is in there hiring area. So I will wait and see what they say. -

I was talking to a glass guy when in little rock he said 98 percent of the load are preloaded and do drop and hook That is about all i know about specilized -
Well, talked to them today.
They will not even consider drivers from even .5 miles inside NY for a position in flatbed. I refuse to even look at specialized. Told the recruiter this, and was end of conversation.
Too bad. They are missing out.
It is not like Erie PA is really in there area eather I guess. Or Warren PA. I am 35 min from Erie and 14 min from Warren.
I know they come up here, and it is silly they will not even think of taking drivers from here. I am pretty sure they did before they bought the glass dev. I am guessing they changed it so that specialized would have a shot at getting more drivers. -

Hello everyone, been following this Mav thread and most others since their inception. I could use a little advice. After reading/following this thread and others, I decided to give Mav (US DIV) a call. Worked with a recruiter named Ben for just short of 2 weeks. Punched all the tickets and provided all the info. Ben said things looked exceptionally good and we where just waiting for the Hiring Board to review my application. Ill stop there. Heres my background: I retired as a US Navy Chief Petty Officer (honorably) in 2004 after serving my country for 22 years. Took a couple of years off to spend with the wife and kids after spending more than half of the 22 years with SEAL Teams and Marine Recon. That left me out of work for 2005 and 2006. My wife and I started a company in July of 2007 which we still operate. I have a very high-level top secret government security clearance (TS/SCI/SSBI). I have a spotless driving record. I have absolutely no type of criminal record. I have my Class A CDL (with ALL endorsements), which I obtained on my own. I took the Pre-Trip/Skills/Driving test this past Monday and have my Class As in my wallet. I even paid for and took my DOT Physical on 6/30/2008 as a "pre-emptive strike". Just wanted to be ready. Thats me .always try to be ready. So here I sit, 130 miles north of the Little Rock terminal in Oxford, Arkansas. I can drive to training in 2.5 hours. Im retired Navy, in excellent shape (Im 46), responsible, dependable, family man (wife, 2 kids, mortgage, etc.). Traveled all over the world and the US. Etc. etc. etc. Started researching trucking companies about 2 months ago. Found Mav. Absolutely love the company and the way its ran. Steve Williams is definitely a forward thinker. I researched Mav so extensively that I can tell you who ran their first load and to where. I can tell you just about anything about this company other than what it is like to work for. Now I digress, JARVIC (MJ), I put you in on my App for the hire because of the wealth of info you have provided me with (just wanted you to know). Also tried to PM you but dont have enough posts. Now, here comes the sad part (atleast for me). After getting pretty pumped up at the prospect of working for what I feel is one of the best trucking companies in our great country, I got turned down. Man, I can not begin to tell you literally how heartbroken I am. Yeah, I know sounds a bit dramatic but true. With my background and service, I didnt think there would be any problem. Im pretty bummed out right now. Never the quitter, I got right on the phone with corporate and spoke to the Employment Manager (Ms. D). Gave her the background. She stated she would have the Hiring Board Director give me a call. As of this writing, no call. Heres where I need the advice. For a guy like me living in North Central Arkansas with Class A CDL in hand & no road experience, what company/companies would you recommend? Better yet, do I have any other recourse available to me trying to get on with Mav (US DIV)? I really love the aspect of driving a "skateboard" and the physical, weather and other bennies are kind of appealing to me. I love and like a challenge. Thats why Im writing my first post today because I need a little help. My apologies on the length, but the readers digest version would omit too much. Thanks very much in advance. Respectfully, Sub Driver.
