    Honestly, though, what would have happened if ya came across a truck doin the posted speed.. Or even less??

    Lesson learned
    13% is no joke. You'll never forget this experience and you're the better driver NOW for it.
    It's also likely you'll never see another 13% grade.

    Those grades out west are L O N G and require respect. They laugh at our "hills" back east. They can be real REAPERS if you don't take them seriously.

    13% fully loaded for 3.5 miles? I'd have to check my drawers BEFORE heading down...... I'd pick thirrd gear, and wish I'd gone to church on Sunday......

    One time too fast...many times too slow.

    And remember, the shortest route is not always the fastest. You would probably have saved an hours time by just going up to Atlanta then over to Birmingham. And no steep grades.
