I agree no traffic plus no dot
-
That's what I've done on several occasions. Last one I picked up in MO, had a set of signs in my luggage, drove to WI picked up a trailer and brought back to TX. If ya get caught playing dumb helps.
-
Strollin, what signs are you talking about? Temporary registration is the only thing I can think of. Thx
-
My regular signs, dot number, truck number etc. I just figured it wouldn't make me stand out as much. Was kind of a funny trip. Went about 1800 miles total and never had to cross a scale. Some of that was 'special' routing and other was luck. I had my proof of insurance and a temp tag from Texas along with my bill of sale.

If you read and understand all the questions on the application for the fuel permit, you can not get one for the trip you described. The cop at the scale only knows and has been trained how to give out tickets to create revenue for that state. Is this vehicle BEING USED(right now, not before, not later) as a CMV???
-
Why not just order you tag, get your if ta and insurance and go get the truck. It won't be any cheaper when you get it home.
-
This is what I had planned on doing, unfortunately in KY though the local sheriff has to inspect out of state vehicles before you can get the apportioned certificate
-
Similar in Missouri except an officail inspection station or the HWY Patrol verifys out of state vins before you can file for a title or plates.

I ended up buying an 08 Freightliner cascadia in my home state and went ahead and did just that.
