I am a motor carrier with 2 trucks and 2 trailers 53dry vans with all permits and insurance to haul general freight interstate, base out of California and almost going broke right now.
I get freight from DAT load board but seems to me that the brokers are making more money than my company because again I am barely surviving so I would like to get my own shippers but just don't know where to start. Anybody wants to help me.?
I'm a Motor Carrier going broke, need mentor...

Sorry but getting into to this with all that without. Direct customers is bad planning and deserves to be eaten by the sharks we
Call brokers they are there to save shippers money not to make you money. Now sell your trucks and your Mc and go fry burgers at mcdee no thinking neededmhyn, Ruthless, spyder7723 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Ed, If you are running 2 trucks then you're half way there, you gotta look around where you are at in the local trucking market, You have to GET OUT OF YOUR TRUCK and TALK to people. Talk to the shipper in their dispatch office, give them your card ...."Ma'am I am a local owner/op if you ever need someone I can be here Quick to haul that load for you, Thank you BTW for your business"
You GOTTA get in front of people its as simple as that. And if you have drivers, ask them to do the same because their jobs just might depend on it.
And it doesnt help that rates are down right now.
Good luck Driva!

What he said. Also, do not let rejection get you down! -
Why would any successful MC want to share business secrets to help you make money? ..might be time to lease on to a company..

Knock knock who is there? Like alien4fish said, you have to hit the pavement. Don't be discouraged it is growing pains in business. I've been there before I sold my truck & got back up again . Listen to others advice and do like wise. Step back a little and think so you can make some wise decisions to move forward. I hope it works out for you
Edgrmndz Thanks this. -
During my time as a independent I would simply play the cutthroat game the same way the brokers do an I would double back to customer/shipper an find out what they paid to have the load moved an a lot of times it's a heck of a lot more money than what I was paid to do it for.
I've had shippers approach me to find out what I was paid to do the loads for an they are blown away at how much money these brokers are walking away with.
Eventually I worked out deals with shippers/customers that I wouldn't charge them what the broker charged which in turn would save them more money an I would make more money as the driver.GoldenLad Thanks this. -
A lot of guys don't believe that when these loads are created an ready for shipment they could be anywhere between $3-$8 bucks a mile!...an that's going ANYWHERE not just within 2-300 miles of shipper. But by the time they Throw the load up for grabs the brokers bid on it then that broker bites off more than he can chew so he's forced to broker it out to another broker an by the time it hits the carrier you're looking at maybe $2.00 a mile going 250 miles but had you've had that direct customer that same load would've paid you $5.00 a mile.
Cruisin thru, spccorp and Edgrmndz Thank this. -
