Umm do you know what a "maintance routine"is? The regs refer to maintance in a corective, or pre operation sense. As in durring pti i found X, and X needs correcting before it can return to service, or during pre trip i found X, so it is oos untill MAINTANCE ouccurs. I didnt see anywhere thatca driver is expected to do maintance to company equip. I really dont understand this back and forth you guys are having...
unpaid down time ??

That is Inspection, Repair, & Maintenance? The sections you referred to concern driver inspections.

Some would like to imply that the fault of truck breakdown falls on the driver. That the driver is primarily responsible for keeping the truck roadworthy and the business flooded with cash. Failure to do just that should allow the employer to obtain work free of charge.
Now Charlie Mac seems to be of that opinion and finds clauses in the DOT regs that mention maintenance and the driver in the same article and use them to support his opinion. Only thing is, he does not understand those clauses. He has never been subjected to those clauses. And he probably didn't even read those clauses. All the while, he tell us who know about those clauses and live with them everyday, to "suck it up buttercup." 'We should take the big shaft from the boss, and thank him for his kindness when he is done.' -
Well i for one will never do maintance on a company truck. Im not aloud, (no certifications) if i monkey with something, and something happens due to my inexsperanced hands..... fluids, air, reachable bulbs. And a acurate report. Thats it.

You're not putting any miles behind you so you have to wait a measly 90 minutes before getting paid for sitting on your duff & that's "work for free" and "taking the big shaft"?
spyder7723 Thanks this. -
You should look for a job as an OTR recruiter. I'd hire you in a heartbeat.Charlie Mac Thanks this.

This pretty much sums up the attitude of most truck drivers. Just wait till you ask them about using a pallet jack.
-
If they signed it, thier not being shafted. And personaly i dont think waiting 90 min is that bad, as long as detention is decent. Im on detention all day... (paid hourly)
Charlie Mac Thanks this. -
Nothing like sitting on time and a half, or better yet double time. Actually taking a nice nap is even better.
-
Well no doubletime for me, (no sundays) but ive done my fair share of time and a half while riding ##### in a big hook.
