Do you move over?

Nothing against the cameras; one way or another. Do ya move over? This thread kinda rolled in 3 directions but i'm still following it because it's interesting. After I helped save a fellow driver's life with NO triangles nor flashers (above) . . . its a part of my mantra. Cameras matter not. I don't have driver facing but wouldn't mind if i did. Not much they are gonna see except a dedicated professional doing his job, and periodically raising the mike, or popping a new piece of gum in mouth.

I agree with ya tho, @moloko . . . if you are doing the job, as is intended for us professionals, who cares? Heck, doctors have cameras in the ER, right? Doing their jobs, professionally! More people need to consider this a profession; a lifestyle . . . a dedication.

best not roll that window up or down, adjust a mirror, turb on the radio, heat or air, lean and look or blow your nose

 

Every time. I worked as a tow truck driver for years and had to dodge many many trucks and cars while trying to do my job without getting killed so now even if there's no one visible near or in the car I still move over because you never know if that door is gonna open right when your bumpers even with it.

 

Right, that's what I'm saying too. I've almost learned this from experience. Dude opened his door right as I was coming up on him and as I was directly next to him. I thought, jesus god man I'm gonna kill this guy. And he was a fellow truck driver as well, so I'm not sure why he didn't look before opening that door and standing on his steps.... It's just not worth it. they'll always find a way to pin it on you for not moving over if there was ample opportunity to do so.

 

silly as it may sound to some, if the opportunity is there I'll move for a vehicle with a ticket on it, someone walking, bicyclists or anything that may have a possible surprise.

I too have had motorists open door's or step into danger but I do watch for it.

for what ever reason I've seen the tow / road service trucks parked along the fog line with tool doors open in the lane. I do understand why and what they're doing and give em space.

From the other perspective. Never turn your back on traffic.

 

Just for the record and to clear up any potential confusion.....when I suggested getting rear facing cameras in my earlier post, I didn't mean driver facing. I meant rear facing cameras mounted outside the vehicle that capture what's going on behind and beside the truck.

 

Rank,I was looking at some camera systems that mount on both mirrors....That would be perfect for a side view and rear view of whats going on behind you.
Will have to see if I can find them again.

A dash cam got me out of a ticket and being sued for BS injuries....I believe in them 100%

 

I always move over when I can safely..if I can't do it safely then I slow and give em as much room as possible..like jc1971 said how would ya feel if something unexpected happened ? I hit the flashers and slow as much as possible..I'd rather hafta upshift and get my speed back than hurt anyone..all the years I've been OTR my worst fear is hurting somebody..be safe out there driver...
