so my license expires 5/4/16. I was wondering if I was allowed to renew it and take my hazmat test again before that or do I have to wait? Also, do I have to get re back ground checked again as well and should I start that process or how should I go about this entire process before it expires and keeps me down for a certain amount of time...
Thanks

In cali a driver can renew lic before it expires. Where you are should be the same. You have to pay the money and do the background check all over again for hazmat.
-
Yep. Get on that now since you're less than 90 days from the deadline. My last background check took around 2 months.

In mass, you can renew once you within a year of expiration. Here you also need to retake the hazmat test, and reprint every 5 years.

I called TSA they said to ask DMV because there might be a chance they won't have me renew my back ground checks and finger prints. So confusing

Your HAZMAT (background) isn't tied to your license. It can be sync'd up with the license if you did everything at the same time, but it's not necessarily. You'll retake the endorsement either way. My license expires This September. My HAZMAT background is good until 2020. Having the dates close isn't a bad idea though. Don't expect the RMV to give you good answers on that. I have the call 75 times and take an average answer policy with those morons.
