Have you ever heard of CA's mandated idle limit of 5 mins? Thats not safe either, but has that stopped them from making it law?

Harley,
They set a 5 minute "kill" time on the trucks. They do have an over ride for those that do not have APU's. So it's not an issue.
They're not going to ask you to freeze or roast inside your truck
Although CA wouldn't think twice if you died from a massive heat stroke while in their "perfect" state. -
I can add to that. I've got a truck with an APU that's had some "issues" lately. They put the override to the 5 minute shutoff just in case the APU goes down on the road.bullhaulerswife Thanks this.

Is this something that the big trucking companies are doing or do the smaller regional companies are doing as well? I don't think its a Utah law yet, but I am not sure.

A lot of companies, big and small are doing it. CA is in the process of making in mandatory for all trucks that enter their wonderful state.
It a fuel conservation thing for most. But not required as a matter of law, yet. However, some (a lot) of the states do restrict idle times on trucks. But they haven't required the shut down to be automatic, like CA wants.
