Cool, I've got it all added up now. Can we count the nights we spent in a hotel due to mechanical issues as sleeper berth deductions?

Yes as long as you are away from your tax home.

I just finished updating my spreadsheet so I can do taxes. Below is how this year broke down compared to last year.

    2014
    Days worked 100% perdiem ...103
    Days worked 75% perdiem......136
    Days local work ...........................8
    Total days worked.....................247
    Days off......................................118
    $253.21 per day worked
    114782 miles 54.5 CPM actual

    2015
    Days worked 100% perdiem ...85
    Days worked 75% perdiem......125
    Days local work............................5
    Total days worked.....................215
    Days off.....................................150
    $267.30 per day worked
    102812 miles...55.8 CPM actual

Days worked 100% perdiem are those days that I woke up and went to bed in the truck.
Days worked 75% perdiem are those days where I either left home or arrived home.
Days local work were deliveries, short runs or shagging trailers where I left home in the morning, returning that night.
Days off are 24 hours off at home logging 0 miles. I did no 34 hour resets on the road either year.

I made about 5K less this year than last and ran almost 12K less miles. This is also my lowest grossing year of the last 5.

I pretty much ran what they had for me this year. I asked for lots of weekends off (didn't miss a home Carolina Panther game) and went on a family cruise. There were a few times I was off when I wanted to be running. At this point in my life I value home time more than a few thousand bucks so I am actually enjoying the modest slow down in freight at our terminal. If the downward trend continues that is cause for concern but for now I am enjoying slowing down a bit.

I used the info you posted and I got a nice tax return. Those sleeper berths help a ton. I'm glad to have some of the money I earned returned to me.

Its definitely helps. Even as little as I am out its bigger than my mortgage interest deduction.

Just finished taxes. 2016 was my best year gross since starting 64k.

    2016

    Days worked 100% perdiem ......90
    Partial days 75% perdiem ..........123
    Local..............................................6..
    Total days worked...................,,,.219
    Days off ......................................146

    Average wage $292.24 per day

I did not add up mileage for the year but imagine I ran similar miles to 2015.
