One time my fuel filter vacuum gauge was reading high so I pulled the filter and found a sliver of rubber about the diameter (sort of ovalish though) of a nickle sitting on top of the filter. I figured the fuel lines were deteriorating and put new lines from tank to pump.
I wonder if the pieces from your filter came from the tank or something. Every once in a while I'll run my tanks to 1/4 and get in there with a bright flashlight to inspect for any debris or water at the bottom of the tanks.
Fuel tanks not equalizing and left tank empties faster than right one

Well you're either mostly sucking from the left tank or mostly returning to the right tank. Usually a suction problem of some nature. Check the suction lines for the left side. DO NOT blow air through the lines back into the tank. If there is debris in the lines you just put it back in the tank and probably never get it out of the tank.

Well fellas, figured out what my problem was. When they were adding my new fuel/hydraulic oil tank on the right side before I even got In this truck, the newbie mechanics plumbed the return line for it to the draw tube. Lol. Instead of the return fuel dripping back into the tank, it had to go all the way down to the bottom of the tank and push through all that pressure.
Works like a charm now, tho. It still kinda favors that driver side lil bit but, it's a helluva lot more manageable and I can run all the valves wide open now!!
'Preciate y'alls help!!Blagoje Thanks this. -
It will always favor the drivers side because of the crown in the road.
You'll always have a bit more fuel in pass tank. -
Yeah and not only that in my case but, both fuel tanks are of different dimensions as well. The driver side tank is longer and of smaller diameter whereas the fuel portion of the passenger side tank is shorter and bigger around. They both claim to be 78 gallon, tho.
-
Ya my 97 379 pulls slightly more from driver side than passenger side.
-
I'm still wondering if I may have a bit of a venting issue possibly since the vents aren't the same. Either way tho, atleast I don't no longer have to run with the driver side tank valves purt'near closed off anymore.

Vertical head pressure is a big factor on equal draw, and that is a function of tank diameter. Tank length doesn't effect it, so you can have two different capacity tanks that draw down at the same level, as long as they are the same diameter.

Well, I guess maybe I should give an update, I got my problem a lot closer to being solved. Apparently when the mechanics put the fuel/hydraulic oil tank on my truck when they were preparing the truck for me before I started driving it, they plumbed the return line in the wrong spot. Had it switched to the right spot and now they pull pretty even. Still have to pinch off the return valve a little to that tank but they equalize the way they are supposed to and feed the same now.

To anyone who pulls up this thread:
Turned my truck on and let it run, shut off the return valve to one tank, took off the fuel caps to watch the level in both tanks and waited,.....once the tanks evened out I turned the return valve I shut off to where I’m hoping it will keep the tanks even. If not, I’ll try again.
