    Old Iron,

No family and no debt, just looking to run with a great company. It doesn’t have to be a large national company. In fact, I think I would prefer a small to mid-sized company, maybe a family owned outfit that doesn’t think of drivers as merely a #.

    What’s the harvest run?

I’ve filled out some apps for local dump truck and cement work but have yet to hear back. I’ll touch base with them is week.

    Thanks for the reply!

In training now at MTL- McElroy truck lines- great training with knowledgeable instructors to show you how to secure a load correctly and professionally and within and beyond DOT regulations. I like what I see so far. No half ### load securement and a consistent emphasis on safety all the way around. I chose flatbed to stay in shape and to get exercise and the pay is pretty good for starting out. Flatbedding isn't for everyone as it's a lot of physical work and the tarps are heavy and bulky and we have already seen a few students depart due to not being in proper shape or just being reckless. MTL is definitely focused on raising the bar than just filling seats. MTL was one of my first choices in driver training due to the recruiter not blowing smoke like all the other recruiters we met.

The ''Harvest Run" is the Winter Wheat Harvest out West.
The outfit I worked for started in Texas in the spring. We worked our way up South Dakota, and then jumped out to Idaho in the month of August. Then back to West Kansas where they are based out of and ran Fall crops until the end of November.
The pay is awful low by most standards, But room and board and meals are almost always included.

I can say I didn't make any money working there, but what I learned put me to where I am today.

@johndeere4020 What part of Ohio do you call home? This coming week I need to go get that trailer in Lower Ontario. On the way home I'm thinking about swinging down to Sherwood, Ohio. [ Hop skip and a jump west of Defiance]
Equipment dealers got a really cheap 90' 3pt sprayer I want to look at. If your anywhere close by I'll buy the first round.

I'm northwest of Columbus about 20 miles, in probably 80 miles southeast of Defiance.

    I figured as much.
I'm still waiting for them to get the paperwork in order to get the trailer across the border. The way my luck works it will be a Thursday night mad dash to get there n back. Just so I can play bed bugger for another weekend.
Id really like to take a look see around Randal Bros.

I've been there a few times, I used to go to Holegate every week on my milk route but we lost that farm. You get through central Ohio let me know.
