You need to see what the wire gauge and length is along with the draw of the inverter, using too large a fuse is as bad as not having one at all.

Maybe this was set up wrong when I bought it because there is no holder, just this fuse. On end is on the battery post and the other is bolted to the cable. The fuse is shot, it was loose and when I wiggled it around I could se the juice arcing inside the viewing glass.

You should be ok hooking that fuse up off the battery post like that. Sorry I had a brain fart lol. Yeah you'd be better off just replacing the fuse.
gunner76 Thanks this. -
I just looked at the fuse and it's a 500amp. I know nothing about invertors, only have it since it came with the truck and I haven't done anything in the 5.5yrs I've owned the truck other than check to make sure it turns on.
I think I'm just going to unhook the invertor cables from the battery and tie them out of the way. There's no need to have the extra stuff hooked up if I'm not ever going to use it.
ETA. I'd have to look but I think it's a 1500watt invertor. -
The better ones have a lexan case.
Any time you have something like that hooked straight to a battery it needs to be protected from accidental shorts. -
If it were me and I wasn't going to use it I would unhook it too, one less thing to go wrong.

Go to a car audio shop, they'll have the bigger fuses for guys running monster amps.....

I have an 1800 watt Tripplite and it called for a 250a breaker. I found that the re-settable breakers weren't very durable so i went with a fuse. My fuse holder is mounted to the back wall of the battery box with a short cable going from it to the battery and then to the inverter.
I used this one:

The holder is down the page a little.gunner76 Thanks this. -
Mine is a Tripplite also. I have a question, mine has a remote power panel mounted to the side of the sleeper near where the previous owner ran an outlet for the appliance he used and if I unhook the power at the batteries I assume it will kill the power to the remote panel also?
