Was taking my 30 a bit ago and noticed that the coil on my Monkey Made looked odd. I got out and inspected it and when I touched the chinked spot , it broke.
Now, if I key up, it screams with feedback... obvious antenna issue.
This thing is RIGHT with this set up.
I have a spare 2000 to use for now.
My question is... will JB WELD aluminum fix this break, or do I need to have this done professionally? Aluminum can be difficult to weld.
Thanks !

As long as the JB is RF conductive, and not RF neutral, it will work.
You could even get some copper ribbon, bolt it to each side of the break and solder it for good electrical connection.
Your signal is transmitted almost completely by the bottom most rung of a loading coil.
As long as you can maintain 50 ohms in the system and get a low reactance on an analyzer, your good to go.jammer910Z Thanks this. -
Jb weld?
Don't bother.
Welding it is easy, crap you can do it with a little propane touch and one of those quickly welding rods.jammer910Z Thanks this. -
Per the data sheet JB Weld in NOT conductive.

aluminum can be difficult to weld, but I'd forget the JB weld, I'd either find someone who knows how to weld aluminum or just replace it, get quote for welding and then look up price to replace, which ever would be cheaper is the way I'd go

Aluminium is easy to weld, it isn't rocket science. Home depot has something called Bernzomatic aluminium welding/brazing weld rod and use a propane torch.
However, I would do this instead, call the guys who made that antenna and tell them they have a defective part, I understood that they are supposed to have a lifetime warrantee.rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
I've sent the manufacturer an email soliciting "advice". No response yet.
They do have a lifetime warranty, but it requires proof of purchase, and that was from a cb shop 20 years ago. That slip of paper is forgotten history.
I'll be patient awhile with this "no ears 2000" (compared to the MM) and see how the dust settles. I'm on an 8 day west coast swing so there's not a lot I can do out of this sidebox on 10hr breaks.
Thanks to ALL for the input. I will check for the aluminum welding rods at Lowe's or HD. As long as it's conductive material , it should work.Last edited: Feb 22, 2016

I've never had been asked for a receipt when getting replacement parts, that would be kind of stupid when you think about it, does it really matter, it is maybe a $5 piece of metal.
For me, my concern would be why did it happen in the first place, maybe you have a defective part so they should honor their claim and send you a new part. I've got an antenna that has gone through hell, lots of salt water before I got my hands on it, then I put it up 23 years ago and it is still working great, all aluminium.rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
It needs to be TIG welded

Which company does 8 day West Coast Swings?
