So today I was backing in a dock. It was a very tight squeeze and I bumped mirrors with the guy next to me. The damage was very minimal, not even a scratch on mine but on his it cracked the outer shell, no damage to his mirrors, they still work normally, just cracked, so we had to exchange insurance info. My question is I know it's not DOT because it was on private property and no one was hurt or towed, but will it show up on my DVR?? The police wasnt called or anything, but he had my name, DL # and state so I didn't know if it would go on my DVR... I hope not, any info is appreciated, thanks!

It's usually more of a problem with your company, and what they report on DAC

No, this won't affect your DL or CSA standing. Probably will only be a matter that is documented internally with your current company, and the "incident" might be passed along to a future employer. This should not be anything to concern yourself with other then you might be asked to reimburse the $300 for a new mirror shell.

It wont be on your driving record but it will show up on your DAC if your company uses DAC

No, it won't go on your MVR. However, it WILL be a "preventable" incident on whatever records your employer keeps, and if they report to DAC, it will be on there too. I've heard those mirror housings are expensive, so don't walk away thinking it was no big deal. Learn from this and pay attention in the future to keep things like this from happening again. You may get a stearn talking to if this was your first. If it happens again, you may be let go.

In all honesty, you probably would've been better off cracking your own housing and doing no damage to the other truck. At least then, your boss would have the choice when/where/if he was going to pay to have something like that fixed. When it happens to somebody ELSE'S truck, they are going to want the money to fix it.

Is there a way in like a month I can get my DAC to see if it shows up?

If your a company driver I would let your safety know what happened. If it's your truck and he has the insurance info he is going to file a claim against your insurance. If it's not written up by a cop there is no proof that the accident took place.

In a case like that it would be a good idea to offer cash to the other driver and then keep quiet about it. Thats what i did and nobody had to know. A wad of cash in your pocket can get you out of a jam sometimes.

I would have not even bothered with it if I was the other driver unless it was ready to fall off. I just had a driver replace a mirror on our newest truck because it got hit with road debris, cracked the plastic and that fell off a few miles down the road and took out the turn signal light we had put on the bottom of the mirror. He called me in a panic and I said "it happens". I know he was honest about what happened, my other truck was right behind him and lost a headlight. What gets me is they are made like crap, it isn't the first one we had to replace and won't be the last.
