finally got a chance to get online, here i sit in percival, IA
i del.. tomorrow and already have a pre plan, had a uneventful time coming thru wy n ne, that route is beginning to bore me.
i added some fuel in GR. ISland but they did'nt want me topping off, probally wait till i get into MO.
the 60mph is still brothering me, not able to shake my disgust with that yet, but i am trying.
Hank once told me that May is a progressive co. and will take steps to survive and i agreed then as i do now.
just so happens that as far as i know they are the first OTR co. too cutback to 60, and i can attest to that as i got passed by everyone on I- 80 today. well i stop here for tonight and get some dinner before i get too worked up.

I wonder if they will have the recruiters telling drivers to come work for May and be a road hazard anytime you need to get in the left lane?
It's a good thing to drive slower and concerve fuel and money at your company. But there is other ways they can do it besides making it less safe for the driver. There are times when you need some power.

I had a hard time getting my truck up hills they reset the paramerters while it was sitting in Brooks before it got assigned to me.
I was told this by Danny the training / recuriting dept head guy.
I was told that the truck had to shift at 1500 or the truck would loose power well as you guy's know on the old freightliners you can not shift at 1500 pulling a full load up mountains or large hill.
The shop that I took it too thought the turbo was shot and replaced it along with the egr cooler but I kept having the same problem the turbo would shutt off and then comeback on intermitenly. I had May's shop in Utah look at it and they was blaming me for over speeding the turbo etc. Also had other accuzations by the shop guy's. I was pulling the hills outside Laramie Wy going toward Cheyenne at about 5-10 mph and loosing power trying to get on the highway I said enough is enough I was tired of putting my saftey and life on the line to drive the p.o.s. that I was assigned they only possible way for me to get another freightliner was to go out to brooks to get one otherwise I probaly would of been stuck in a 379 which I would not drive if it was the last truck on earth.
The truck was one of the many reasons I left May.
They would be a decent company if they would leave the truck alone and quit reprograming just to try and save a few dollars.
The Utah terminal is known to chew up drivers and spit them out.
May needs to program the truck to the manafacutres specs and leave them alone maybey put a speed limiter but that is it
I drove my truck the way that I drove the trainers truck so it was not my driving that was creating the problems.
I got on hometime and started to look for a deferent job to pay the bills. It is not a truck driving job but for now it is good enough. I want to get back out there but just a little gun shy I am afraid of getting a pos at another company. -
finally get another chance to get online, the other day i fueled up outside of st. louis, ended up getting 6.9mpg, glad to see the increase as i had gotten discouraged over my mpg all the mtn's. and westerly dir. will do that.
i am in MI. now waiting on a load offer, the miles have been decent since coming out off hometime, w/ the exception of sitting in payette 3 days waiting for a load to come to me.
i am all for doing what i can to conserve fuel out here and it's not the 60mph that brother's me it was 1)not being informed of the cutback an2)seems the only ppl getting their pay cut has been the drivers. i have heard of noone else within the Co. having to swallow a pay decrease.
Hank stated it's only a 30 mi. decrease, well it add's up, 6 bucks a day x number of days you run a month.. WOW,
cacth ya'll later -
I heard from other drivers that May worked with Cummins and Detroit on the updates and all the updates were written by the engine makers. One driver told me since his update he is getting 8 mpg.
Look at some of the companies with financial troubles( Jim Plamer files chapter 11!) Companies have to try to save nickles and dimes every where they can.

i filled up yest/ i avg. 6.47 mpg
i am under a load that had a D/H of what they say is 116 mi. , but the routing was much farther around then that. Approx. a 30% difference.
normally i find it's no more than 7% max.
i bumped against a dock now and i'm preplanned going to Cali.
take care. -
Im going to do what I do best and stir up a hornets nest. Im going to ask why we keep getting the hits for saving the company money. I'll let you know if I get fired.

Where did lurchings go? Has anyone seen him on the road?

How true. 30 miles a day at what I was making when I worked there would of been a $2000+ a year pay cut.
May had my truck set up to disengage the cruise when your headlights went on. That was a waste fuel right there, since you get better mpg with the cruise engaged.
They could also buy APU's for the fleet and save a ton of fuel that way also.
They could also not run so many loads with multiple stops in high density areas where the trucks fuel mileage would suffer.
They could also not book all those 45,000 to 46,000 pound loads I used to get there 50% the time.
They could also hire better sales staff so they would not have to DH you hundreds of miles to get a load because your last load delivered in the middle of nowhere.
The trucks being turned back to 60 amounts to a pay cut for the drivers,
plain and simple.
You need to save on fuel by turning the speed down? Fine, then DON'T FREAKING PAY ME BASED ON HOW MANY MILES I CAN DRIVE IN A DAY
I remember when USX was handing me a .005 pay raise each year, and then all of a sudden gave everyone a .03 raise when they went to the new logs. They knew the 14hour rule meant less miles and less money and they would lose drivers if they did not compensate.
May driver realize this. The consumer price index has gone up 12% in the last year and you just took a freaking pay cut. My advise? Jump ship while it is still above the waterline. -
I AM on the road...or..was until about a couple hours ago. Dispatched to.
haul a load from Sacramento to Spokane. Got dispatch Wednesday afternoon. Delivery appt was Friday,05:00. I sent back immediately that 05:00 was not doable, but that 13:00 was
No response, so I busted butt all the way up here.
15 miles out of Spokane, I get a dispatch update- appt has been re-sched for 7/29. Receiving knocks off work at 11:30. They aren't even OPEN on the weekends.
Don't particularly mind the re-sched- but it would have been nice of them to tell me yesterday while I was in Oregon, in cool weather. Instead, I'm parked at a Flying J for 4 days, local temps pusing three digits, and they tell me "don't idle".
Sorry, Brooks- you guys put me here in this heat - you get to deal with the idling expense.
