But you are going to have a democratic administration for the next 4 years at least. And in my opinion the CARB regs are not going away

Well I agree with a couple others on here about the intended use of the glider rules. It was meant to protect someone who had recently had an overhaul or some such from losing all that money if the vehicle was rendered unusable for whatever reason. It was never intended for people like Fitzgerald's to pop up and start buying up pre emission blocks and mass produce gliders by the thousands. It's kind of a violation of the spirit of the law basically. I'm really surprised they haven't put a stop to it already. That being said I'll take a glider over a new emission truck anytime. :)

As long as the government gets their tax money they don't care one way or the other about them. I believe it's if a glider costs more than 75% of the cost of a comparable new truck you have to pay FET. About the only way to avoid paying FET would be to kit out your current truck, which is what gliders were intended for.

Can you still buy a non drive train glider to finish yourself or are the manufactures only selling to dealers to build them?

I don't know if they are collecting fet on gliders or not now,but they used to.Read post 17.I kind of doubt that the govt would relax a tax, once they start collecting it,they've never let up on new tires and trucks, etc.Kind of goes against their grain. The old statement,"Im from the govt.,and I'm here to help you",lol.

I would love to buy a k200 CO. They won't build new CO for America because no one buys them and no one buys them because they aren't available.

I like the old cabovers also. Lots of them still around in salvage yards and some runners. Id want to rebuild drivetrain myself anyway to make sure its done right.

Also some are saying its a tax revenue thing but believe me its an EPA more than that. Lobbyists are #### and determined to clean up the air so def and dpf is here to stay. We might be grandfathered in with older trucks but change is coming so prepare for it.

Yes you can. I checked into kitting my old truck out when the cab started cracking. But with the discounts that Fitzgerald gets based on the volume they buy I could buy from them cheaper than kitting my truck out after you figure in labor and the assorted parts you'd need to finish it out.
