Need some reassuring

I did Chicago intermodal for a year and a half before switching to dcs local. I made 66k and was home 2 days guaranteed. If they didn't have a load to get me home they dead headed me and they pay deadhead miles home. You always have a load ahead and you do mostly 95% drop and hook.

That was JB back in the day. Otr fleet is so little today you don't have to worry about that. They have their turn over just like everyone else and intermodal is in need of drivers . If they hire you for intermodal that's what you will run. I ran it 2x and 2x I went to orientation. Your good. They really are a pretty good place to work

 

When I lived in Colorado Springs 2 years ago, they had a dedicated position in Pueblo, CO they advertised pretty heavily for on Craigslist as well as other websites, including their own website. The job was for dedicated 5 state area, home 2 days a week, avg $1000.00per week, blah blah blah, all of the usual too good to be true stuff. A guy that I worked with called and talked to them about the position, filled out all the paperwork, was approved and accepted. He gave his 2 weeks notice to our employer, and JB sent him his itinerary for orientation, and I thought it was odd that they were putting him on a Greyhound to attend orientation in Dallas, TX. He went to Dallas, and after orientation...............Drum roll please................... "Oh we don't have any openings on that account, you will have to run OTR until something opens up." Maybe things have changed with them, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I am just ahead of you. DCS dedicated account. Just finished orientation. Start training tomorrow. My experience has been very positive so far. Only 4 in my class and 3 of us made it thru. Can tell you all 3 of us are going to the accounts we signed up for. The 2 others are going to a different one than me. Sounds like the recruiter may have lied to them about home time. For me everything that was said had been true to this point.

 

After I was signed up for orientation the account manger for the DCS account I was going to contacted me and that settled my nerves a ton when I was able to ask my future boss questions. I read all the same stuff you did and man it can be paralyzing. Not saying everyone is wrong just saying what has happened so far in my case.

 

Where are you going to run intermodal out of? There are a ton of JB hunt intermodal threads with a lot of current guys who can tell you what they make. I did Chicago for 2 years.... 65-70k is easy for a hard runner. I am on a DCS account now for the last 2 years but since I left intermodal they have raise the pay .

I won't lie it will take some time to figure out the Ramps and chassis flips etc especially if your out of Chicago. Once you learn rail yards and the way JB hunt has you do their system the money is there.
