I think if the drivers looked at companies close to their home and went there in person they'd be better off than settling for a raping by a company like this. My old boss had 15 trucks, very low turnover, and he would give anyone a chance if he liked you and you were trust worthy. Your past didn't matter to him if you had your act together now.

with the time and money invested in getting and keeping a CDL, a person takes on way too much responsablity and liability when you get behind the wheel of a commercial vehicle to work for sub par wages.

I agree with Chinatown. I know the pay is low at CC, but it's a big-picture issue. Drivers who have messed up and need a stepping stone back into the industry will not well-served by taking a retail or service job. If they buckle down, get thru 6 mos to a year at CC, they will then have much better opportunities available. It's not a forever job, it's a means to a much better ends.
MidwestResident, G13Tomcat and Chinatown Thank this. -
If, in fact, they are getting 6000 miles a week, then that's $660 gross per week which is only about 500 less per week than what i gross.
The other alternative would be to get a truck and their own authority, but then again you need money and/or very good credit..........
i guess the white collar ex-cons might be able to do that. -
Part of the problem is that even the hourly position driver jobs nowadays REQUIRE 1 to 2 YEARS OTR experience at the MINIMUM,and they won't look at a driver otherwise.MidwestResident and G13Tomcat Thank this.

Agreed. That how one has to look at a company like Carolina Cargo.
If a driver can stay out of trouble for a year or two, he'll have a reference he can use.G13Tomcat and TROOPER to TRUCKER Thank this. -
Carolina Cargo should only be used as a second chance co and making it a stepping stone

I have talked to a lot of LTL truck drivers in the past. LTL companies are requiring the 1 to 2 years experience as a means of thinning out the large numbers of applicants applying for LTL driving positions.

SADLY and UNFORTUNATELY, some people do not have a choice. They need the experience to eventually move onto a much better paying job, hopefully with better job conditions to go with the new job.G13Tomcat and chopper103in Thank this.
