It was the way that it was worded. Its a ll good though. Steven's school was great. The trucking part can go pleasure themselves. And God help you if you sign up for an alliance fleece.

Okay then. No harm done. I wanted to. How long did you drive for them?

I thought that was awkward too. My thing was why call in every day unless there was an emergency or something? That was my downfall with my driver manager.

Some DMs are great, others are not. Some people do well with Stevens, while others move on. It's a training company. You get your start and move on. Every once in a while an old codger like me stays on. But it's not the norm.

I've always admired your sheer honesty on this site Emulsified. You're right. I still say I should've handled it like the bigger man. Still I believe that Stevens Transport is a great way to get the training you need. If given the option to drive again, I know I had made the right decision to go to Stevens Transport despite the bad reviews I did come across beforehand. I'll always five star the training if nothing else.

When you refer to their five star training, do you mean their CDL school portion, the OTR with a trainer part or both?
I'm not a driver yet, don't even have a permit and am trying to decide the best route/company to head for.
So far it's looking like I'd be best off getting the CDL on my own if I can then finding a company. I'm located around Ft. Worth.

Hi there @Jodans. I would have to say both. Be advised, even if you do get your CDL on your own, that you will still be treated as the rest of the students. This is to include the same tests and grading on the track and road tests. I had friends with CDLs who had to be treated the same as rookies such as myself. That would only mean that you won't owe them tuition costs if you decide that Stevens isn't what you're looking for or isn't offering you what you want. If you go company, to avoid still owing them, you can give them $3000 upfront and it's nearly the same thing. However before you go hunting a school, see if the TWC will assist you. But if you graduate from an accredited school, they do offer tuition reimbursement. However you are trained the same and it's if YOU want to put forth the effort and learn what they're trying to teach you. Try and get Melvin if you hit the Dallas yard. He's the better one in my opinion.

Every trainer is different. I was blessed with two very good ones for the 42 days I was OTR training. Even though I was dismissed April 24th of last year, I still remembered what they taught me at the job I just had. You'll receive $350 for training. I 'm not sure if they changed that or not. Just be prepared to make a few compromises here and there and meet them halfway. After all you are living in his/her home for that time.

Tell ya what get a hold of @TLeaHeart, @Emulsified, @Corporal_Clegg . These guys worked there for some years and can't steer you wrong. They tend to tell the truth. Also give Stevens a call for the full rundown. They'll be glad to send you a Dossier of everything they do. And if you still choose them, the recruiters will stay in contact with you up until your training day. You don't have to be swayed by the bad reviews. I wasn't. And even though I issued one out of anger last year, I still have them to thank. As I always say: The only way to know is to experience it yourself. If you want some of my personal takes (Good/Bad), PM me anytime.

@Voodoo Pyg thanks for the response.
Yeah, the idea of getting my CDL through a school first is to avoid owing the company, and I'm reading that company schools seem more like bootcamps where they stamp you into a driver ASAP and send you home if you don't cut it and the schools while still kinda fast paced will work with you more rather than toss you out.
I expect fully no matter where I end up, I am going to be treated like the complete newbie I am.
I will certainly take you up on that offer to PM you, soon as I have the 6 posts required to do so.
I've been "researching" this for a month and am still about as confused as ever with so many questions and I am getting to the point where I need to make a move or risk losing the ability to do so.
