Getting nervous about impending road test..

In most cases a lot of these orientation pre-hire road tests are doing is just checking out your basic skills. Just don't get a case of the dummy's and you should be ok. By dummy's I mean don't allow the truck to change gears on a railroad track, speed through a school zone, and try to not hit a curb. Some companies have testing routes that go through these kinds of places. Also during the test if you see any low clearance signs be aware of them and act accordingly. Keep your eyes and ears open and do not get into a conversation with the person testing you, just drive the dang truck like I know you know how.

 

Just remember that the faster you drive, the quicker the test will over.

 

Granted I'm only in school and I test with the dot on wednesday/thursday, I only start in third on descents. Sometimes 4th depending on the grade. Other than that 2nd. And first obviously for spring brake checks/testing connection to trailer after hooking up.

But I can't wait to have this worry in my head. I want school to be over and out on the open road.

It's not really a road test, it's a way for them to see where you're at and who you'll need to be put with to improve your skills. It's a "road evaluation".

Unless you make some really dumb mistakes (like hitting something) you'll do fine.

 

Good luck SEFL is a good ltl company. I didn't know they hired new drivers.

 

They hire new cdl grads and at some terminals hire with only a cdl permit.
