First of all ,if you are goin to run under your own authority ,as a "New Entrant" with your experience not many insuranse companies will take you ,and those who will will charge you a significant amount jut for Liabity ins.
To lease under someone else's authority you are goin to need at least 2 year experience most companies that do not required experience are nothing but driver mills.i sugest you do some research on insuranse requirements and Companies that will lease you equipmet or let you bring your own truck.

With the way things are going right now, I would stay a Co driver and get more experience. If you really want to get your own truck, it's best to buy your own truck rather than do one of these lease/purchase deals. Always have total control over the truck that you own. But be aware that buying your own can be an expensive endeavor.roshea Thanks this.

if you want to make less money go ahead fleas a truck. when some company drivers make 45 cpm today plus benefits and no headache. I don't know the crst deal but 95cpm and fscharge minus truck payment ensurance and other stuff the numbers just don't work I don't know

My husband actually passed every thing at the DMV and got his CDL with no help but no one would hire him because he didn't go to a school and had no experiece. So he had to go to a driving school with Stevens Transport for a month just to get the CDL he already had. There school in Colorado was really good but the company is crazy so after a month out with a trainer and a week of sittting in Texas waiting for another trainer he left and come home. He owed the company 5000 for the school which we had to pay back. But he had no problems getting on with another company but with out that 1 month of driving g he would have never got hired any where.Grijon Thanks this.

I can't tell you to much about the experience part but if you are in the same boat my husband is in and a lease purchase is the only way you can get out of being a company driver then just never lease with the same company you drive for..... EVER. You won't be successful withe someone that holds your key to success in there hands. And my personal opinion is that you will never learn about owning your own truck until you talk with alot of O/O and try it for your self because you can always go back to being a company driver if it fails.

Finance a truck through a dealer that has cheap monthly payments. Like $700 a MONTH . That way you can take the truck to another company to lease on with. I seen people do that at Schneider. Companies think about company drivers first and owner operators second. Your miles might not be enough for a big lease truck payment because of the economy. Used fleet trucks have a maintenance record . You never know what your going to get with a used owner operator truck

It is difficult,.. but it is possible to get hired on and drive with out going to any cdl school. I originally drove for 7 yrs,.. then gave it up and took a different career path. I gave up my CDL for 15 yrs before getting it back on my own the same way your husband did. The difference I believe is that I had prior experience and understood some of the channels to use in order to get my foot back in the door.
Through my stubbornness and pride I took a difficult route getting to where I am. But I am proof that it can be done with out taking refresher courses or any CDL school.

I wish we would have found a different way cause we are still paying for that school but at least his company has a remersment plan and they pay him 100$ s month towards it until he pays it off for up to 6,000$ so it ain't to bad it just looks bad on his credit

Maybe I am not making myself clear or we are on a different page. What does getting insurance quotes do for advice for a rookie seeking to become an O/O? Besides realizing how expensive insurance is,.. there is no real value or advice an agent can give.
And you can lease your own truck on under another companies authority with less than 2 yrs. Several people here on TTR have expedited their route to becoming an O/O with minimal actual experience. I myself bought the truck I have now after only 15 months after getting my CDL reinstated.
I can not remember who it was,.. maybe someone else can help me out here. But we have a guy who got his CDL on his own,.. and went directly to O/O with his own authority after not being able to find anyone to hire him. And according to him,.. he is actually doing quite well.

Hind sight is always 20/20.
How ever,.. if your husband had none or minimal experience before going after his CDL and choosing this career path, it was probably in his best interest to get some kind of training before actually taking the reins so to speak.
