Teams are running out to California again but there are several solo drivers willing to run out west as well that have been pulling west coast turns.

I cannot answer the question about NEMF union representation. Last I knew they were in some kind of Machinist Union. Eastern in non union.

The company is trying to grow and is expanding into other areas such as flats, reefers, and heater trailers.

Are you still at Eastern? How is the pay now? Looking for drivers, Van or Flatbed?

Yes, I'm still working for Eastern Freightways. They are more focused on becoming a reliable flatbed company for the Northeast than growing the van division at this point in time.
The company is hiring new drivers and has actually opened 2 flatbed training schools to help us grow. 1 in Camp Hill Pennsylvania and the other in Newburgh New York.
I believe the starting pay for the flatbed division is .48 cpm. Since the flatbed division is growing so rapidly the owner has been investing in new equipment.
Currently we have a mix of Volvo's, Freightliners, and a few left over Internationals being used as spare trucks.
There are 20 new Freightliners parked in North Brunswick waiting to be rotated into the fleet.
Be advised we are really focused on safety and compliance now. We are using tablets for communication with dispatch which also has an app for Electronic Logs. The fleet is 100% Elog equipped now.

Sounds great Thanks! I worked For NEMF local for a year ending in last Feb. Was thinking of doing something different then P&D freight. Been doing it for 5+ years now! I live on Long Island not much options to choose from.

I do understand. Best to contact the recruiting department at EFW. I believe Mitch Bookbinder is overseeing the hiring for the flatbed division. Let me know if I can be of further help. Good luck

I'm actually pulling a flatbed right now loaded with drywall that the shipper tarped before I pulled out of the loading dock. I had to throw the straps and secure the tarps with bungee cords but didn't actually have to roll out the tarps myself on the load.
Now when I make my delivery in the morning I'm sure I will be taking the tarps off and rolling them up but that's just part of the job.
As for an actual average I really can't say because so far I have seen a 50/50 mix since I started pulling flatbed instead of vans.
Perhaps one of the other Eastern flatbed drivers will chime in.
