    Hello All, I'm currently an o/o leased to a company and I'm thinking about getting my authority, scac, uiia, etc.
    Here is my following questions:
    1. Who do I contact in regards to hauling container freight?
    2. Is there a list of brokers I can contact, and how do I find them?
    3. Can I work directly with ship lines, and how do I contact them?
    4. Will it be difficult to access freight from any of the entities above?
    Any insight would be fantastic! I'm excited and ready to move forward but prior to making the commitment I'd like to have all my ducks in a row.

    Thanks in advance drivers!

    Dominick253 Thanks this.

    Depends on the container freight you want. CH Robinson, Expeditors and others all do container freight, as do many of the others. There are some brokers that only do containers, you'd have to search them out. There are trucking companies in my area that only do work for certain steamship lines, BUT, they are also the depot for termination of their empties as well, and thus they give them a special price break. If you are new to it, you're going to have a hard time with some this as you have no track record.

    Tkanks striker. Would it be safe to assume that once i complete all my credentials (authority, insurance, uiia, etc) that ch robinson and expeditor will work with me straight out of the gate? Will these 2 companies alone keep me busy while i seek out other options?

    Union Pacific here wants no less than 15 trucks under your authority if you want to be their carrier.I was reading all the forums here. I think its better to lease on to somebody than have no freight and sit idle.Plus new authority insurance have mafia like deals say like 16000 for a year with uiia.I have my own authority too.I think its too hard to break new in intermodal market.

    Yes I expect to pay approximately $1500 per month. I'm currently leased with a company but would like to have more control over the freight available to me. Also I'm purchasing another unit and definitely would like to have more control and deal with brokers/freight forwarders directly. I did speak to ch robinson and they said all in need is one truck with the proper insurance and I'm good to go. I'm actually pulling their freight right now through the company I'm leased. Their rates aren't always high enough for my company to make money since they're "re-brokering". But dealing directly with them the rates work for me! Plus a ton more to choose from.

    Thanks for you insight driver!

    Any other input would be great from other drivers.

    There are some owner/operators pulling for brokers in the Seattle area. They have their own chassis 4 axle extendable

    This reply is about a year late but, I didn't apply for my authority yet but working on insurance quotes at the moment. I now have 5 trucks and REALLY ready to do my own thing. I have a lot more insight than I did since my last post. Hoping to get going within the next month.

    @mizzwalker

    I tried to p.m. you, but your profile is too new I think.

    I am in the Philadelphia area and I was just wondering about brokers that would have container Freight in my area with my new Authority that I will be getting in the near future. I would prefer rail freight because I don't have a TWIC card, although I suppose I could get one if needed.
