The axles are not aligned with the chassis. A lot of times they come from the factory this way and no one cares to ever align them.

Other times a locating link has a bad or worn bushing and one whole axle assembly fights with the other to track down the road. This is one of those deals that is a safety thing that you can write up all day long and no one will care. If the 8 1/2' truck now tracks like it is 12' wide they will just blame the driver when it runs into something. Companies will spend all kinds of money on some aerodynamic gizmo, but ignore the fuel wasted by a poorly tracking trailer.

You never had a toy truck or car when you were a kid that was sort of broken and no longer tracked straight?

The suspension system is broken somewhere or the frame chassis is bent and is out of alignment
