Oh yes, most definitely... That so counts... But she needs to document it for you with a letter so you can carry it with you just in case someone questions it.

At the Flying J in Phoenix taking a 34... Five handicap spots here and at 2am all five were filled... Now they all had the placards but if it was legit or not who knows...

The most likely reason is that the driver has a handicapped passenger. There are many drivers that like to take their spouse or significant other along for company, and said person may have a disability.

Couple of years ago I was headed to the top of Maine for a load of fries
Stopped in to Irving xt43 I295 a nice little truck stop
Was eating lunch when I watched a paraplegic wheel towards a truck
Finished eating and headed back to drop of the trash thinking I may be of some assistance to this trucker in a wheelchair
By the time I got to him he was already in the truck, he had a side lift to get him in and out
And he was driving a flatbed !
Walked away shaking my head saying wtf paraplegic running a flatbed
Then got to thinking how great it was he was working with his disability
I wanted to ask him a few question's but didn't thinking it's none of my business

Forgetting about all the disabled veterans are you all? Passengers only count if the operator is the only transportation for the disabled person...according to the ADA ruling. Also...those placards are vehicle specific not operator specific and there is a national database for all the placards and license plates. Johnny Law could easily cruise through any truck stop and verify each placard....big bucks in some small county pocket parking in a Handicapped space when not duly registered.

I highly doubt anyone is forgetting anyone as disable vets would be included with other disabled folks in a thread like this.

I highly doubt any cop is going to hassle me if I am taking my disabled mother in my vehicle to the doctor and she used her placard so I could get her closer to the door... It's not like I am using it for myself and I am not handicapped.

And just register the truck on the placard... Done....

In MI, one can get a person specific handicap placard (rear view mirror hanging) or a vehicle specific one (license0 or like my mother-in-law a couple years back, both.
The placard is usable by any vehicle, as long as the issued person is in the vehicle.
As for truckers, one of my driving school teachers had a foot brace as he had an amputated foot. He could still shift without a problem. Of course now I think of it, he might not had had a CDL anymore, all he did was yard maneuvers and classroom stuff. But he was physically capable of driving the truck, just not walking for 100+ yards.

I could qualify for one, I just haven't bothered. I have so many injuries over the course of my life... well, not worth recounting. As for truck handicapped, I'm cool now that I saw someone post about his wife. That actually makes a lot of sense. And let's face it, if you're driving a van, what you NEED to do physically may not involve a lot of walking. You can limp back to your doors and close them, but walking from the last line at the truck stop to the showers may just about kill you. -I know it, I did it for three weeks with a badly sprained ankle. Drove fine, but walking was an unholy you-know-what.

I guess the peeve I have has nothing to do with driving the truck but rather the requirement of us being in a condition to ensure the safety of the truck - that is load securement beyond the loading of the truck.
