You'll probably end up in the city working P&D. You'll work M-F, there might be work on Saturdays (if you have to chase overages from the FACs) and Sundays are pretty much all off. The only thing is that you'll start off on the flex board, so you'll be on-call starting off until you get seniority.

What's P&D and FACs ? What's city work like ? How's the pay ? Not as good I'm thinking. Flex sounds like lower pay.

P&d- pick up and deliveries. City work.

Fac- freight assembly centre. A terminal that you run to, meet other drivers, work the freight and then head back to your barn. Done mostly on the midnight shift.

Not every company uses acronyms like that. I've been with my company 10 years and never heard of some of them.

FAC is the same as a breakbulk, right? That might be a more universal term.

City work depends on where you are in seniority. It could mean that you get a trailer of deliveries to make, then throughout the day you get pickups sent to you. You might leave with an empty trailer and just make pickups. Or, with an empty trailer, you go to a place that has a spotted trailer that's loaded throughout the day, and swap the empty with the load.

Flex board doesn't change pay. It just means you don't have a start time. You could come in at 10:00 and run a route for the guy who has a day off. The next day you might go in at 14:00 and swap trailers. There will be dock work... earlier start times keep you off the outbound (evening) dock :D

I should mention that every terminal is different, so XWB might be different than what I've experienced at mine.

If that's the deal, I'm all there, if they'll give that to me with just 1.5 years experience.
I just applied to them a few days ago.

I have a total of 14 years in transportation. I started off as a box truck driver at 18 years of age then worked my way up to terminal manager at the company. Then I got a wild hair and drove tankers over the road. I start at R+L Carriers this 3-14-16 . I'll keep y'all updated on the progress. FYI I'm in Louisiana and they starting me off as a p&d driver at 20.06 a hour
