I know someone that bought a truck with the dpf already installed. I don't understand why you could not sell your truck as is(Compliant) to someone else. I have talk to a few drivers that are looking for a pre emissions complaint truck. So I guess they have to be a few in the market.

If the law is that the truck must be retrofitted, then I fail to see how a retrofitted truck is no longer "compliant" simply due to a new owner. Do they seriously expect a new owner in California to remove the perfectly functioning DPF that's installed and spend $15k on a NEW DPF?? Oh wait, it's California logic, I forgot.

I can understand a truck that was "exempted" not being kosher under new ownership but a truck with a bonafide DPF retrofit?
If this is true, California fleets just got a big fat corncob shoved up their ##### when they want to sell their retrofitted trucks. Who out of state will want to buy a truck with a DPF retrofit that they can't use in California and don't need in the rest of the civilized world? -
I'd buy one if the price was right. Can't be too hard to take the dpf off. But even if left on. I think the prices have come down dramatically since the beginning. After all. DPF has been out almost 10 years now.

The retrofit dpf can be removed easily. I think the OP just want to get some of his investment back. If I'm not mistaken, he is running the Johnson Mathey system.

Upon further reading of the regulation (had to do some digging), since the "small fleet" and "phase in options" are now "closed",the only people who could buy and run the truck as compliant would be someone running in the low NOX exempt area that needed a filtered truck and they would have needed to file the low NOX exemption back in 2014,,since the small fleet rule is no longer "open",,a new buyer would not be able to use the retrofit as compliant,,they would have to use the engine MY as a basis to their fleet,,,since mine is a 95 with a 94 MY engine,the truck cannot be operated further unless a 2010 MY engine is installed. Since I did the retrofit during the good faith extension period,I can operate untill 2020,,,had my install been done 21 days earlier back in 2014,,then I would have been good untill 2023,,seems the credit for early compliance is non-transferable
