I am 24 years old and been driving for 2 years i pull for walmart in arkansas for martin transport i am thinking about going and getting my own truck and not being a company driver. They run in a 4 states i would be home 3-4 days a week plus restart like i am doing now. This truck above is in good condition for the age. And my cousin owns 5 trucks thats going to be helping me on the business here and there no worries therejust wondering if this is a good buy ?

Be weary of trucks with that kind of mileage. That is getting close to rebuild territory. If the oil hasn't been changed get a sample, ECM report, maintenance records, and with a motor with that many miles get a blow by test performed. The first truck I considered buying was an immaculate 2006 international 9200i with 900 something thousand on it. I had a Cummins dealer run a blow by test on it and the results indicated a rebuild was imminent.
I live in Arkansas too and highly recommend the Larson Group and MHC for used trucks. I also recommend 2010 and newer as long you can confirm the emission system components have been properly maintained at the recommended intervals. If not, the dealer needs to do it before you drive it off the lot.Pete Fuentes and taxihacker66 Thank this. -
That seems high. I would think that truck could be bought for 25 to 30k

CAT rebuilds are one of the most expensive to do. I would not go more than 25-30k for that truck. Leaning more towards the 25k because the chassis does have nearly a million miles on it so suspension and rears are due to need a few things.

I say be prepared for a rebuild with that kind of miles 36000 pretty high more like 25000.

Seems most components are made to go about a million miles so you could go a few years or a few miles before having to rebuild motor, tranny rears and a lot of other components... Not trying to discourage you as I drive a 1999 379 with 2 million on the clock and have replaced everything it seems at least once and some of it more than once. I have had it since it had 1 million miles but it had a fresh rebuild on the motor. I did the motor again last August.
If you buy one like this just be sure to have a large maint fund and it helps to be mechanically inclined , if not it can eat you up.
36 seems high for this truck, I would keep looking.59MackB61 Thanks this. -
CAT quoted me just under $25k for a Platinum rebuild on a c13. Would wager a c15 to be a little higher. Can you bankroll that in 6 to 12 months?

i really thank yall for the opinions here i will keep on looking and if i come across anything i will repost so what kind of truck do yall i should be looking at in this case ?? ( miles, age ,motor type ) ?

One thing you should reallllly check is Martens O/O requirements. I'm pretty sure they won't lease on a truck that old. Most companies want 5-7 years old or less.

As long as you are working, you can take your time to find the truck that is best for you.
When you purchase your truck, you can have any repairs done to make sure it is road worthy, then and only then, would I quit your existing job to go work with your cousin.
Just make sure there are no surprises when you get out on the road.PhillipFlanders Thanks this.
