I haven't personally looked into Uber that much but my wife has been , she tells me that insurance and the sorts are handled through Uber , personally looking from the outside they seem a little to good to be true to me
taxihacker66 Thanks this. -
Even for my day job I drive a vehicle that's under 10k lbs so I don't have to log anything.
UberX pays $0.65 per mile while Select pays $1.65. A job like Uber can't really be gauged "by the mile" like trucking. There is a lot of deadheading and downtime waiting for jobs. It's all about weekly gross minus fuel and tolls.Dominick253 Thanks this. -
Every time I Uber I get stuck in a below average car and get to listen about how its just the Drivers side job... Apparently the majority of Uber drivers are all BIG time success entrepreneurs that do everything from sell real estate to sell semi trucks to foreign countries. I've heard it all. Judging from this... Im gonna assume Uber Drivers moms paid for there car, they're on food stamps, can't afford health insurance and probably are under qualified for most jobs.

how this done with out a taxi license
isn't it the same? -
UBER. States it's ride sharing to skirt the taxi & livery license.
I have heard Uber drivers interviewed on the local news in T.O & Mississauga and it works out to minimum wage(11.75$) after all expe..Dominick253 and dca Thank this. -
If you are subject to the HOS, you must log ALL time working, whether for a motor carrier or not, on line 4...even a burger flipping job or a pizza delivery job in your car. If you're working, your hours on the job count against your 70. Now if you aren't subject to the HOS in ANY job, then it doesn't matter.

I drive for Uber, It used to be pretty good money but now not so much.I would stay online for 4 to 6 hours after my shift driving 18 wheelers, Maybe later on a Saturday night.
Now Unless you own a Prius outright or a nice 7 passenger minivan, It's just not worth it. Now I only accept rides on the way home from my commute if they are surging 1.7 or higher. I might take a 2.0 if Im sitting at home with nothing better to do. Uber has cut driver commissions 50% while raising their take 35% they are just getting greedy now. So I use them to put gas in my tanks for my commute. Otherwise. Don't bother. Two years ago it was great. Not now.Dominick253 and taxihacker66 Thank this. -
Uber only requires you to have the basic insurance plus comp and collision. However, If you get in a wreck uber only covers the passengers for $1M per incident. So if you don't get the commercial insurance you could get screwed.
I usually only take a ride or two a day now and only during surge pricing. I also do not drive during rush hour or the drunk rush at 10pm to 4am. Too much hassle. -
I rode uber one time, very pleasant experience. Newer Dodge journey clean friendly driver. About 10 miles $14 or $16 I think. Some areas are working on forcing uver drivers to get licenses like taxi. App is very convenient and easy to use. Showed me exactly where driver was had picture of driver and car.
Dominick253 Thanks this.
