What's the deal on Lobos; I understand they're a second chance company.

They are not actually a "company . . . " they recruit people to their $6500 driving class and house guys 10 to 2 rooms, with peanut butter and ramen for the time they are there. Website says room and board and meals, guess that's how they do that; but they DO buy them their first Greyhound ticket to SLC.

Then, no official trainers while in "school." They pretty much self-study with one-another, and the instructor is a 6-month CDL grad, who "supervises" their mud-yard while the newbies self-learn in the company's few trucks. They have to sign a 50-page contract which pretty much states that they will be eventual L/P or O/O's (right) after all their class dues are paid out of initial settlements; and they are paired with O/O's for the first 12 weeks (before they get their OWN L/P truck) and only get 25% of settlement.

The owner of the company is an IT tech, not a driver, and apparently the website is deceiving as such. I've not looked, but my wife's nephew out of NH got hemmed up there, and had to drive himself home (thank God he drove OUT there, in the first place) a while ago, and drove an older man home to KY that also was not comfortable with the contract, to be a LP or an OO.

Arrowhead Dispo, and United Motor Carriers Company (UMCC i think) is all in the same building, and somehow that is how they roll. Nephew also said he could become a "trainer" after only 6 weeks. What does THAT tell ya? Needless to say; our neph is getting his affairs in order, and going to CC. He has NO desire, nor money/resources to get into LP or OO at this point; he just got off probation. He's a good kid of 29 that is trying to further himself. He WAS a prison-guard but that bit him in the butt, ergo the probation and termination.

I told him to mention you, and this website, when he signs on with CC. He lives with his mom (wife's sister) again, and has no pets, rent, mortgage, etc. His motorcycle is paid in full, and he'll be fine with $30K/year to get started. (Lobos was talking $1200/week after CDL . . . heck, I barely make that, after all my years!)

If you have a better suggestion, we're all ears. All the others already said NO, unless I'm missing something. I jot notes on your recommendations, and forward to him. He has limited data on his phone, so we just text.

Sorry I got long-winded, but that's the info we've gotten.

    Thanks, man.

From what you post, CC is the better deal.

Absolutely. Guy's just getting his life back together since he can't be a LEO anymore, and was totally stymied by having to sign a contract to "own" a truck !!

Your input on CC and the 2 guys i've met has really helped, and we thank you for that.

    Chinatown Thanks this.

Stuff happens in life; no big deal. Billions of humans on the planet and we're not carbon copies of each other; we're all different. CC will give him a pre-hire letter if he needs one for school.

    G13Tomcat Thanks this.

That would be totally helpful, as the wife's sister is gonna foot the bill. Thank you; didn't even THINK of that; never been in that boat myself. That'll be a "leg-up" for him to start, and any ego-boost will be helpful.
