looking for drive tires

I like Southern Tire Mart. Also take a look at the Yokohama.

 

I buy Toyo tires for me and Kellys for the hired hands. Michelin steers, but don't think it's worth the extra to put them on drives.

To answer your original question. Southern Tire Mart is about as fair as it gets for large chains.

 

Also if in Houston or Channelview Tx, exit 285 off of I-10. Do Rite tires, guy will cut you a good deal on tires. You here them on the CB when going through. He sells them wholesale.

 

Don't forget Brown Brothers a little further west in Sealy. They can put a set of drives on in about 20 minutes.

 

I honestly do not know state by state.

What I do know is that my carrier can get me tires in Illinois on his national account cheaper than I can anywhere else.

A lot cheaper,.. and I have tried,.. shopped around and called everywhere. I have been told by places they were offering me a whole sale price and then I tell then I can get the tires $75 - $100 less and they tell me I am a liar. They can not even get the tires that cheap. I'm not going to argue with them.

I've got 4 Yoko 417 drive tires on right now and not exactly thrilled with them. They wear evenly,.. good wet/rain traction. Not so good in the snow and mud. They seem to be a softer compound and not lasting as long as the Hankook DL07's I had on before them. I got 475k mi out of the DL07's vs hoping to clear 200 - 225k mi out of the 417's. I'm leaning hard on replacing them with Hankook DL11's.

I have enough miles on the General D660 tires on my rear drive axle to roughly say they are doing better than the Yoko 417's. I'll know more by summer time.

As for steers,.. I can not give enough praise for Michelin XZA3+ steers. I should see well over 200-225k mi out of them before I replace them. They are wearing smooth and evenly with over 50% tread at almost 2 yrs old. Hands down the best steer tire I have ever tried.

If Im paying MORE tham $250-$275 a steer WITH my good carcasses.........I'm getting ripped off.

If Im paying more than $2200 for a set of virgin trailer rubber with my good trades..i m getting ripped off..

Sorry Guys...But Tires should..Ooops wait a second, TYRES should not cost $400-to $500 a piece.EVER!! Those of you sheeple that say "Ah well..It is what it is" are just what they are waiting on.

Sorry But you don't go from $130 a tire for a Firestone in 1992- To $570 a tire in 2016.... Doesn't match Inflation prorates with the way rates have been stagnet

I hear people saying this all the time, but I can't get any miles out of tires compared to you guys. Maybe 120k out of drives and 60 to 80k out of steers before I pull them and run out on trailer. Geez, don't know what to think.
