I live in PA and am buying a truck in Indiana. I was planning on going to get the truck and drive it back to PA, and then putting the truck on with a company. It is a day cab meant for local intermodal work. My question is what permits do I need to obtain to bobtail through Indiana, Ohio, and PA? It will have a temp plate and insurance, but I am assuming I will need fuel tax permits as well for all 3 states? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to be a good boy and do this the legal way. Haha.

I think you just need not for hire signs

Do you have a lease already, and are you getting plates through the carrier? If so, then get signs from the company, get your IFTA permit and stickers, and bring your lease when you pick up the truck.

States don't have fuel permits, per se, they are all under IFTA.

You can still get individual state fuel permits if you aren't signed up with IFTA.
A guy I know runs TN state tags because he rarely goes out of state. When he goes out of state, he has to buy fuel and trip permits for the other state he's going in. I don't think TN will even let you sign up for IFTA if you run state tags.

I'm thinking the OP would still need trip and fuel permits for Indiana and Ohio. Every state wants to get their part if you drive though it.

We only haul "not for hire" as we only haul our own equipment. That doesn't exempt us from having fuel permits (IFTA) and trip permits (IRP) for every state we run in.

You have everything, fuel permits would be needed for a plated vehicle so you are just transporting it. If unsure call Indiana and Ohio and of course Pennsylvania to make sure.
