    77fib77, yes it s a 13 speed, i have owned truck for over three years. average for that period 7.43, last 2 years 7.49. if i did not run from western canada where the winter fuel costs at least 1 mpg for 4 months my mpg would be better. you may be surprised by this, i am not. i am from uk and have driven this engine since it came out in the 80's. the fuel economy is less than we would get in europe because of the epa nox settings. i drive the truck and can feel how it lacks from the way it should be. all that has ever been changed on the engine is cups, if i do not get 2 million miles out of this engine i will be disappointed. here is one main component to fuel economy for all trucks, the drivers habits and the speed he/she drives. also i have not changed the oil for 3 years running a by pass filter. i have run them on trucks using synthetic oil since 1987.
    if you read posts above, why do you think i have driven volvo d12 for more than 30 years and did not know how they check for fuel dilution, because i have never had fuel dilution before.

    good motors,

    I have 1,450,000 miles on mostly original Volvo D13/2008, I replaced injectors/camshaft, no in frame yet, I have some blow by smoke now but not burning oil,using synthetic Rottela T6 only since I got it new, ;I don't run fast ,limited to 65 mph, (Ontario law), but I keep it around 62mph/100kmh ; very good fuel economy, around 8 mpg; A friend of mine sold a 2001/Volvo 660 / D12 with 2,000,000 miles original motor still running ok, but the truck frame was destroyed by deicing salt and was too expensive to replace; I know many guys with over 1.5 mil on original D12 motors;
    3 years same oil , still good samples? the synthetic doesn't oxidize if the filters keep it clean is ok; still sounds too much, lool
    I replace it at 30,000 miles , synthetic is affordable now, I need 9 gallons, I buy from Wall MArt, Meijer, Rural King in sale for 18-20$/gal and for another 100$ they do the change in TA/Petro with their filters;
    I hear rumors about the poor diesel fuel quality here in Canada and USA ; even small diesel cars WV, Mercedes are getting lower performances here; I don't know if is true;

    Update on fuel dilution. After months of back and forth with volvo where they insisted it was the age of the engine causing the fuel dilution they changed injector o rings. Did not cure problem. Eventually they did a dye test, found diesel all over the inside of valve cover, put in a new set of injectors, under warranty, solved the problem, 3 months later still zero fuel dilution. the engine is back to where it was before the original change of cups and injector change. The only reason they did any of this work under warranty is because i had many years of oil samples done every 25,000 miles at a recognized full service lab. this prove beyond all doubt that the fuel problem started when they put in new cups and injectors. without this sample history i would have been out of pocket maybe even to the tune of a new engine.
