    While making the U-turn, I got the truck stuck in some soft grass, so I called the police since the trailer was blocking part of an entrance ramp to an interstate. While police were directing traffic(very light, 7am), another semi pulling a short dump trailer didnt swing wide enough and lightly scrapped the back of my trailer. I had nothing more than a few gouges, but he sheared a handle off. He stopped, looked at his damage, and went on down the road. Cop went after him, charged him with hit and run. This was what I think got me fired. The other driver hitting me. Safety seemed like it wasnt a huge deal because I was stuck(no damage to tractor or trailer), but once I was hit, the whole thing changed into an accident.
    I tell ya, it was really hard to deal with being fired only after 8 months, but Im getting over it...realizing theres nothing I can do about the past. I can only change the future, so I must press on. Ive learned my (former) FM and another big wig in Lincoln are standing up for me. Later today, I should know the score.     Man that sucks !!

    If the dump driver had stopped, nothing would have happened. To him or you most likely. Unless the cop wanted to be a total prick.

    On the other hand. I bet it would have been a big deal to safety, once you were out and rolling.

    Ok, the final verdict is...get on with another company and keep my nose clean for one year, then reapply with Crete. According to a recruiter, Schneider has a 15yr no hire policy for those ticketed for illegal u-turns. Guess I lucked out with Crete.

    Check your DAC and see what it says. Put nothing more on an application than what is on your DAC. You should be able to get a copy mailed to you or if you live close to a DOT center go and request one.

    Most companys want at least 6 months. Also one thing I would try is to find some local companys for awhile and take some safty courses( Smith System ).

    How long does it take for something to appear on your DAC? I checked mine about 2 weeks after I was let go from Crete and there is nothing on there.

    BTW, I was able to get hired on with a small-medium sized company running OTR. Im back and a little wiser! Too bad I had to learn the hard way.

    Well good for you longbed, everyone makes mistakes and sometimes things dont work out like planned. Use your head and good judgement and things will be cool.

    The School of Hard Knocks is a though place to learn. However, once the lesson is learned, you want forget. The difference between being smart or wise is EXPERIENCE.

    Most of us made plenty of bad decissions when we were rookies. Some were lucky and got through without adverse results. Some, not so much.

    Yes, but some never learn and keep doing things the hard way over and over. Or learning the hard way is deadly. Count yourself lucky that you are a wiser man and still employed.
