Salutations to all.
Let me start off by first apologizing for starting a post that I am sure has been asked a million times before. I just want to get as much info and options on this topic that I can to help me with my decision.
I have had my CDL for 6 years and have not used it once. I did graduate from a accredited school so I am sure if I get a refresher I will be fine. Also I am a disabled Army veteran if that helps. Now onto the point.
I live in Philadelphia PA and am looking for (in your opinion) the best starter flatbed company I could pick. I really don't have too many preferences the main one would be home time. i would prefer home weekends and would settle for every 2 weeks. Now with that being said if you have a preference in a specific company please explain why.
Hows their home time, what perks do they have for veterans, such as being able to use my GI Bill, types of trucks and if they have any added perks on trucks i.e. APU, TV, etc. I am also looking for a company that allows you to actually use your Bluetooth device while driving. Would like to keep in touch as much as possible with the family. Does your suggested company have driver facing cameras??? Anything you can think of that maybe you wish you knew before you started your career.
The companies I have looked into but haven't seen enough info so far are, ROEHL, PGT, TMC, MELTON, MAVERICK, KEIM, and BTC. If you know of more please let me know. Thank you in advance for your replies.

From what i have read in your post id say TMC, very vet friendly as the founder was military i believe. They have all Petes with 13speed transmissions, cpm or percentage. The SAY 3 out of the 4 weekends a month youll be home however i can neither confirm noe deny it, i have never worked for them. Try calling, several times, a few days apart and compare what recruiters stories match up. Talk to drivers at local truck stops. If i had to pick, id go with Melton or TMC. Melton has APU's and TMC doesnt. Pay is similar, Melton has 10speed KW's. Best of luck, and thank you for your service.ZephyrSoCal and LilRedRidingHood Thank this.

If I had it to do over again, I would've gotten 6 months driving experience with Watkins and Shephard (van) because they have an intense 10 day orientation and then send you out with your truck.
Then, I would apply at TMC or McElroy (good home time with each company) as an experienced driver; take their securement class and get in one of their trucks.
That would skip the living with another man for a month dilemma that just SUCKED for me.
Then again, your trainer might not play with the cold sore on his lip all day, use piss bottles AT THE REST AREA, and avoid showers for absolutely no work related reason.
That said, I have friends at TMC and McElroy who are home Friday afternoons through Sunday mornings regularly and are happy with the pay.ZephyrSoCal, LilRedRidingHood and GoldenLad Thank this. -

TMC is by far the best company out there.Equipment, Training, ,Etc
Hands down. You won't find a better companyZephyrSoCal and LilRedRidingHood Thank this. -
BTC should also be on your short list. In my 2 years there they were always straight up with me. Always did what they said they would. Trucks are decent, Macks, that pull pretty good. A lot of freight around PA, and they always work to get you home when you need to be. One time, while there, I wound up about 400 miles from home and needed to be there for something important, they just let me deadhead home, and I was paid for the miles. That really spoke volumes about what they're made of. In fact, I would still be there if I hadn't gotten this cushy local gig that I have now. Give them a call, and listen to what they have to say, I think you'd like being there

I talked to a recruiter online and they said I would have to take the whole 160 course over again because I have not used my CDL since I got it. That's not something I want to do. Also I was under the impression that TMC doesn't allow you to use a Bluetooth device while driving wonder how true that is.

I looked on their site and it doesn't look like they hire out of Philadelphia. I will talk to. Recruiter soon

That is outstanding. I will give BTC a call
