It might be aftermarket but for that price you almost can't beat it!

The new one I bought is 2 yrs old and sitting on the garage floor cause it leaks. I took the old one and had it welded. So if you do buy and aftermarket and it leaks you can always get it welded, just make sure they know ho w to weld cast steel.

You cant weld it, you can braze it. As long as it aint cracked it wont leak on ya, if the slip joints are together and its tight it wont leak. And i strongly advise against brazing the slip joints LOL!

830 let me get with my buddy, i might be able to snatch his manifold for a case of beer.

Les is the 550 turbo wastegated?

Yes you can weld cast with a nickel rod or brass it but I doubt that will hold.

    No turbo is not wastegated.

Cast will never hold, especially in something like a truck where it vibrates 24/7. Yeah you can weld it, then bake it and slowly bring the temps down, but eventually it will crack around the weld so its pointless. Thats why i said you cant (meaning shouldnt) weld it.

Your EGTs sound fine to me, i dont know what CAT did, but maybe they did something to it to turn the fuel down. Its been years since i played with a B model. I just messed with the AFR and fuel screw. It sounds like a stock 425hp motor the way you describe it behaving.

Same here, i have a pretty radical set up in my C-15..... very far from stock. It will push over 50psi of boost...... I know what you're thinking this aint no acert! lol

80k on the deck, so you're a steel hauler? I use to play the MI steel game, would load 120+k on my doubles all the time. But now the business is dead.

Yeah but I do it on a 45' spread axle in ohio. Remember the Jungle (Truck City) in Dearborn? That place is dead! I used to run up there all the time but like you said freight died and the rates went to crap!

Yeah typical hang out. HAHA i know you tandem axle guys 40k over the drives and another 40k over the spread on trailer and haul ### with the lights off.... I got busted numerous times. Never when i was excessive though, i had 165k on the trailers once, was able to do around 112 on the deck legally.

When i did it they paid 1.05+ FSC and fuel was 1.70 a gallon. Today they pay 1.00+ FSC which is about 6 months behind and fuel is 4.50! Thats outta gary, IN. Rates outta detroit last i heard were 65c!!!!! Im glad i got out of it.

Over here no one really changes settings or enhances performance. Not like 20 years ago when 425 CATs were being played with and the 500 V8 E9 Mack, 444 Cummins fuel was cheap great fun!!!!:biggrin_25525:
