Could anyone give me some insight to the types of hours the local trucks run? Like nemf, yrc, abf, etc. Would like to try and get into local, will have class a soon. Just wondering if it's night work, day work, both, 14 hours a day everyday, or less?

Most ltl runs 7-9 am till done, Regional line haul happens at night, there are some exceptions, food serv. Starts early 3-5am and tends to use all your time. 12 hour days are not uncommon.

24-7... Most companies have runs all hours of the day... Sometimes 14 sometimes not...

    Varies company to company

I am currently working for USF Reddaway, rarely I would work 8 hours on any given day. Usually I do minimum of 10, but most the time between 12-13 hours daily.

It's a lot of hours and hard work, plus dealing with customers makes it... More interesting. They want you to do everything they say and expect you to do more than what the company requieres.

All in all , I'm just happy I'm not away from home for long periods of time.

If you don't like working under pressure all the time, you might want to try line driver instead. No touch freight, no dealing with customers and prob more $

Thanks for the replies guys. Around my area there's nemf, yrc, cheeseman, saia, and some others. Trying to get things narrowed down. Much appreciated.

I work no earlier than 2pm get back no later than 2 am.

Local unload reload things myself most times.

A lot of times I'm waiting on subservice drivers to bring three skids of milk or something. ::rolls eyes::

Its nice to be paid by the hour standing aroun . ;)

Poor subservice gets to bring it in after his clock gets killed for a whopping 80 miles that day on cpm pay lol.
