I've ran into that a couple times too. Get pushed back a couple weeks because it's warranty. Not happening this time. I'll be in there every day until it gets done.

The rear housing is considered to be part of the engine side warranty. We do plenty of those under warranty at my dealer. Usually the rear housing does leak around that mileage. The rear mounts need to be removed and the engine needs to be supported and that's a good time for the tech to check for worn mounts. Those will not be covered under warranty. A good dealer will replace these parts under warranty: rear housing gasket, 12 flywheel bolts, pilot bearing, rear main seal so make sure those are REPLACED. If they find any wear on your clutch it's a good time to pay out of your pocket and have it replaced so you wouldn't have to worry about paying labor to remove the transmission. Clutch is also customer paid and they shouldn't charge you any further labor because it's all part of the rear housing leak that's paid by warranty.

So here's how it played out. They went in and did the work, replaced the seal. Clutch was 50%, so I told them to replace. You're right, no labor, $1100 parts. Fine. 5 days down,(3 day job), I leave. Head back out a day later, shut down, grab the flashlight to look under the engine, oil everywhere just like it was before. Very frustrated. I nursed it back north so I can put it in the shop up here and go home. Looks like oil is possibly coming from the head, so I don't know if this is a new leak or was where the original leak was coming from. I'm adding a gallon every other day, so it's significant and needs to be fixed once and for all.

I don't understand why they didn't verify where it was leaking from before the repairs or look for additional leaks? As long as you're under warranty you should be fine. The cam frame leaks a lot, the plastic plugs on the rear cam frame leak as well and in the front, the head gasket always leaks oil and some times coolant, and there is a cap on the rear side of the cylinder head for the idle gear and that o-ring leaks a lot. Open your hood and walk to the passenger side and take a flash light to the rear side of the cylinder head/cylinder block and if you will see oil coming all the way down to the cylinder block. You may need to remove the heat shields held by a few 13mm bolts. As a tech I normally steam clean the engine and put it on a parked regen to point out to exactly where its leaking from. If it's your head gasket then the cam frame gasket will automatically get replaced. Make sure they replace these parts: valve cover gasket, injector harnesses if they crack upon removal, cam frame gasket, injector o-rings with new pass through seals, high psi fuel lines (one time use), head gasket, and MAKE SURE they replace the EGR cooler gaskets, intake manifold gaskets, and the exhaust manifold gaskets while the cylinder head is off to prevent any future leaks and while the head is off they should inspect the liners for excessive play or signs of coolant.

If you happen to be in Southern California and need work done you're more then welcome to come by our dealer and I will personally repair your truck.
