Don't forget to look at companies that run their own freight. That's what I do. 4 am to 1 pm, overtime now and then

I used to drive for NEMF, we usually started 0700-1000 (people on bids had set start times) until we were done. Only linehaul worked nights. We could usually get our day done in 8hrs and then there was extra runs we could do for the OT if you wanted. It was in our contract they couldn't force the OT on you after your day was complete. I know a handful of ODFL drivers told me they were forced up around thier 70 consistently wasnt a choice. Screw that!

So far I've heard pretty decent things about nemf. Website says they require 1 year experience, how strict is that policy?

They'll bend thier own policies when they need to. Sometimes its up to Jersey, sometimes the terminal mgr has the discretion. If they need drivers and your there looking for a job it can't hurt.

That is usually the case. Most of the "younger" drivers my company hires have between 3 and 10 years experience. It isn't typical for an LTL company to hire a new CDL holder, although I've heard of Old Dominion doing so due to tremendous growth and need for new drivers. However, P&D takes a lot of skill to get in and out of some of the tiny places we go; I know I wouldn't have been very good as a rookie. I'm glad I worked up to it by working at a local truckload company first.
