Stay Ahead Of Your GPS

Proud to say I'm a truck driver.
First 10 years never used a GPS and got to where I needed to be.
Now the last 6 years I have used a GPS as well as a truckers Atlas. -Makes things much easier.

Just wondering does your ride have spring suspension or is it air ride?

 

That's what I use to say.....lol......I finally pick up one. But don't rely on it 100%. I use it to track miles, traffic, and ETA's, also, some of the streets are hard to see at times, that's when the gps come in handy too. I still use the Thomas Guide maps 99% of the time.
I also use Waze. Google maps I use there satellite view to look at the buildings to get an idea for entrance and parking to stage.

I know your pain. I hear the stories all too often. I tried it for 2 weeks and that was all i needed to know. I've been using copilot ever since. 5 years now. One time license fee and can be installed on any android phone or tablet. Set your truck parameters and she'll treat you right 99.99% of the time. If you decide to try a different platform, you'll have to pay the fee again. ( iphone, windows, etc. ) It doesn't have the bells and whistles as the expensive brands but it works. For a much cheaper price. I don't need a gps with bells and whistles. There are FREE apps for those.

I hate it too. But once in a blue moon you got no choice. Google isn't perfect either. Which i use when copilot can't do the job.

I see more and more drivers lost on roads they should not be on because of GPS units. I'll keep using common sense and get directions from the right people at shippers and recivers. When it sounds funny, call a few people. Use Google maps and zoom in to get a better view. You don't here to many drivers hitting bridges, or running into things without GPS. If you use one, still get directions and double check that.

 

When I'm coming back to the yard from the west on I10, my GPS wants me to exit at exit 35 and run the frontage road to Horizon Blvd (Exit 37), if I pass exit 35, it will recalculate and want me drive on I10 eastbound to exit 42 make a u turn, get back on I10 westbound and exit at Horizon Blvd. For some reason known only to God and Teletracs, the I10EB off ramp for Horizon Blvd at exit 37 doesn't exist.

 

Qualcomm MCP 200 built in GPS. It does goofy things like that all the time. I love it when I go way up north and it tries putting me on logging roads to get back to the interstate. 75% of the time its OK, but if I'm going someplace new I have to check the route to make sure there are no surprises.
